Hi!
I''m moving to the UK for a few months and would like to propose to my gf when she comes to visit. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on taking a ring overseas with regards to customs/duty ..... am I destined to pay duty or is this avoidable??

Thanks!

If you buy it here and carry it over with you, you shouldn''t have a problem avoiding paying duty. The problem lies if you are in the UK and buying online from the states. When the package arrives at customs, that''s is when you''d be assesed the huge (22%) duty. You don''t have to declare personal things you are bringing into the country that you will leave with.

I was in a similar situation, but was already over there. Just get it before you go and you should be fine.
