I need help finding an antique or estate ER that is unique. I like Art Deco style and prefer simpler rings.
Does anyone have a trusted online jeweler they would recommend?

Thanks!

Welcome to Pricescope.

I haven't purchased from this company, or know much about them to be able to recommend them, but www.faycullen.com specialise in antique rings and have some nice art deco designs. You can do a search for consumer experiences with them, I think there might be a couple of people who have purchased from FC in the past.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies and the suggestions.
I am going to hang around this forum some and see the websites that people seem to use a lot to get some more ideas. I just want to make sure that I don''t end up overpaying or get an ''antique style'' when I am really looking for an antique. Actually, maybe you all will have an opinion about this ring: overpriced or no?

It strikes me as being a little expensive for what it is ... not so much because of the quality of the diamonds, but because the workmanship on the onyx ring appears to be commanding a price similar to what would be charged for a piece with a halo of colored stones (more valuable material, considerably more complicated technique). It doesn''t seem true across the board, though: this piece, for example, seems quite reasonably priced for what it is!

Thanks for all of the help. I would really like to find a ring that looks like this:

Found at: http://www.faycullen.com/engagement_rings/800/d128r5ds.html

I like it because it''s simple and somewhat unique. I do have a few concerns about it, though:
1) I don''t think it is a real antique. I''ll have to e-mail them to check.
2) I think this may be a not-so-hot diamond. I know that I1 means there are visible inclusions and I wonder about the color- "faint champagne." I know that colored diamonds are popular now, but is this one just flawed?

Thanks again!

PS- Yes, I am picking out my own ring; I just can''t help myself.

1) When you find the word "style" in a fay cullen description it is usually the sign that it is reproduction. I don''t like that they are not more up-front about this, but there you are.

2) It is a matter of taste. I would hesitate to buy such a diamond without really knowing for sure if I liked them or not. I have heard that the policy governing return at fay cullen is pretty narrowly defined...you might check that out searching pricescope.

Another website I like for antique jewellery online is rubylane.com.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I took a look at MS Rau and, while they have beautiful things, they all seem a bit out of the price range (somewhere between $5-$10,000). I love the huge amount of things on Ruby Lane, and will continue to check there for rings. I think I''ve decided against the ring in my last post because, as CaityJ pointed out, I may not be crazy about the diamond when I see it. The search continues!

Ok, Here is a ring that has many of the characteristics of the other rings I like. It is also sapphire which I would really enjoy. However, I worry because it is really cheap. Can you all offer me opinions on it?

Here is a link to the ring: http://www.rubylane.com/shops/redemtion/item/J25

I e-mailed the dealer to ask for an appraisal. What else should I be asking?

Thanks again for all of the great help.

The sapphire looks really dark, that might be why the price seams low. I like the style though!

With a budget Art Deco can get pretty pricey in original form, but you may see that already.

Also, stay away from pieces that have ornate enameling, onyx, or specialty cut sapphires, as the labor tends to cause the price to be higher.

Nelson Antiques are excellent. And consider the smaller auction houses for a nice ring. Try Joseph DuMouchelle, Doyle, Heritage, Dupuis, Bonhams, and Skinner.

In NY we have some nice spots on 47th, but they are scattered throughout the city as well. Where are you located?

This ring has caught my attention a few times - it''s at A La Vieille Russie (http://www.alvr.com/jewelry-cat.html?sub=Rings). They have some neat-o jewelry...

DH bought my antique ER at antiqueengagementrings.com. I love it! It''s beautiful, well made, and very sparkly. It was also a very good price for an original antique, or even a modern piece. We would have had a hard time getting something new of equal size for the same price.

So I really recommend the place. Dh probably would as well, but not as strongly as me. They did double charge his cc, which was very annoying. They fixed it but it took a bit of time to sort out.

I got this ring as a bit of an early x-mas present. It is an antique diamond and sapphire ring and I just love it.

Thanks, Dearheart and thanks to everyone else for all of the website suggestions. I was told by my finace that my x-mas ring is just that and I can continue my search for the perfect engagement ring. But, now at least I have a little something to cover my naked finger!
