Hello All,

I have been reading here a lot during the past days... Very helpful, but it does not make things easier.. ;-))

I want to propose soon to my girlfriend (37 years, brazilian) but I really struggle between two different setting options... I am not quite sure which one she prefers and really don't want make her suspicious.... All I know is that she does not like a massive setting and rather prefers 'small' things..

I kind of like (nd prefer I guess) the split shank but I am a bit afraid that it is too big.....

The size is 6 and the stone is already selected - a 0.78 ct round cut diamond.

Looking forward for your suggestions.

Thanks,
Markus

I prefer the halo for a stone that size. It will not be overpowering at that size, in my opinion. That ring will be easier to wear a wedding band with, also.

Any way to ask one of her friends which one she may like better?

I like the split shank one too, but I don't think it looks proportional to the size of the diamond you have. The halo looks more proportional to the center stone. Do they have a split shank that is smaller, i.e. more in line with the 0.78 you have?

I also like both settings but think I'm going with the halo. It shouldn't be too large with a .78 stone.

I voted with the ladies. I think the halo will be gorgeous with your stone.  The split shank is just too much. If you can get one with smaller melees, it will work better. ;))

Thank you very much for the replies, makes the decision much easier.

I also believe that the split shank is too massive for the size of the diamond. There is no other setting available that I like - these are the two remaining options.

Any other opinions?

I haven't seen the Halo by myself (just the picture) but the proportions with the diamond look alright to me, being a novice. ;-)

Hello.

a quick update.. I have received the Halo last Friday and it looks absolutely beautiful. Way way way way better as on the picture.

Thanks again for the guidance towards the Halo. :)

My opinion BEFORE reading others (I will go back). Splot shank hands down. I am not a fan of the thin band on most halso. I "get" they make the center look larger (belive me, I am a size gal!!). A pretty look. Can't argue. Just so trendy. I worry in 5 years......I considered a halo. No judgement. My ring looked HUGE!! For me, since asking, prefer the split shank. Looks feminine, has nice sparkle (diamonds in band), some thickness to band (which I prefer personally), less trendy (but I lean toward unusual). Seen some knock out halos!...... Good luck....now I will go back and read what others say! :)

I think both settings are trendy, but a halo is vintage as well.

Halos tend to make the stone look bigger and more sparkly.
