Hi folks,

I've been lurking a couple of weeks, but waited until I wasn't completely clueless in order to make a post. I'm in the preliminary stages of ring shopping (probably buying in the summer) and wanted to see if I've gotten any good at spotting a "good deal" if such can be had. At one of the online venders, I saw what I thought was too good a deal on a round loose diamond and wanted to see if I was right.

It has an AGSL grading report with the following stats:

Cut 0, Color 1.5(G), Clarity 3(VS1), Carot 1.10

Table 55, Depth 60.2, crown angle 33.9, pavillion angle 40.5, cutlet pointed (or none).

The girdle is thin to medium and the cut evalutator tool on this site gave it a .4 (excellent) rating.

The offering price is: $7,994.00.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Thank you.

Eric

Hi Eric,
There are a couple ways to cross check the pricing. IMHO, from the main vendors here, you typically get what you pay for and the question revolves around trade offs on color and clarity vs. size. Cut is also a possible trade off but people here recommend not compromising here since good cut adds beauty for the least cost.

Do a search by cut to see what similar sized/color stones with a great HCA score cost.

Well cut G''s are going for 7.9-8.4k. This says your $8k price is normal.

Look at the price stats tool to see how the price jumps up and down around your spec. https://www.pricescope.com/RepScope.asp
You can look at the 1-1.49 range
G VS1 H&A cut is $7.3k/carat for
Dropping from G to H saves 20%
Your price of $8k is at the market price

The final search is to see what other similar specs cost. Just plug in your spec +/- a couple %
https://www.pricescope.com/diamond-prices.aspx
All the results were between $6.4-8.5k. Indicates your price is in the range.
