What''s better?

900 platinum or 950 platinum?

I understand 900 plat has 10% alloys

and 950 plat has 5% alloys

so I understand 950 is more pure than 900

but is purity in platinum jewelry really better?

but what is more durable?

and what resists scratches better?

also what keeps it''s polish better?

AND

What''s Better?

950 platinum with 5% Iridium

OR

950 platinum with 5% Ruthenium

What''s more durable?

What will resist scratches better?

What will keep it''s polish better?

I want some answers to these questions before I decide what platinum setting I purchase and from where ( because most places use different alloys in their platinum settings)

Thanks for your help!

Mark Morrell has this article on Platinum Purity that tells what he uses and why. He breaks down the differences between the mixes you mentioned.

It sounds like 95% plat and 5% Ru is more durable and will resist scratches better compared to 95% plat and 5% Ir and also 90% plat and 10% Ir is prolly better than 95% and 5% Ru

So it would go in terms of durability and scratches:
/90% plat-10% Ir/
/95% plat-5% Ru/
/95% plat-5% Ir/

Correct?

So out of 950 plat I should choose Ru over Ir ??
