What a difference Pricescope makes!
I noted in my first post a couple of days ago that my BF and I were planning to start our E-ring search. We live in L.A, very near a Robbins Bros. store. We decided to go there first, just to get a handle on what I preferred. I had some idea (princess solitare, simple platinum setting- either tiffany, or X/W prong), but had to start somewhere.
I had no idea what to expect going into the store, but I felt pretty confident as I was armed with my new-found PS knowledge. The sales approach is subtle-pushy (does that make sense?). We were met at the door by a hostess, and passed on to a salesperson. She was professional, and asked a ton of questions to know more about what we were looking for. After narrowing it down, and confirming that I indeed wanted a princess/setting as described above, she passsed me on to a diamond specialist, and the fun began!
We were shown a couple of stones, and it was cool to see the different color/clarity grades. We were shown about 5-6 stones, all very pretty, but I honestly didn''t see a ton of "fire" in them. I then asked some questions about what IMHO was one of the best stones. I requested a copy of the report, and here are the specs:
weight: .99
clarity: SI-2
color: I
depth: 71%
table: 87%
AIG cert
$5300
I''m no expert, but I know that this is not an great stone! We wrapped it up, and got out of there pronto.
In all fairness, the experience was worthwhile as it did help me decide that I''m a princess girl. And they do have a huge selection of settings. But, that was our first and last trip there. My BF summed it up perfectly- "That place is for people who haven''t done their research, and just don''t know any better." Just so you know, he was originally a bit hesitant to purchase a stone thru an on-line vendor. He''s now singing a different tune (and thanking all you AWESOME PS people!)
That''s it guys- just wanted to share my experience. THANKS!
