This is a great thread, DS! Let''s see if I have anything else to add...

Here is a 2.36 (mine) beside a 1.51,both AGS-0 stones. (I don''t know the color of the smaller stone, but my stone is a J):
Lynn, can you make the pic smaller on this one too? Thanks!!!

Thanks DS and the others who added to this; it is very helpful for someone trying to decide on size

Oh Miss Skippy, I would be happy to, if only I knew how!!!

I am an idiot in Photoshop, all I can do is crop. The small picture above is just the way I received it, I didn''t re-size it. Hopefully someone else can do some resizing on the photo you mentioned, to make it a little more "life size". If I even tried, I''d probably waste a whole page of this thread with my feeble attempts, and end up with posts of pictures of diamonds the size of a pin head -- or maybe bowling balls!!!

my husband helped me with photoshop. the measurements were a bit wonky, so i actually resized the photo so that it matches perfectly with my hand in real life. and then i measured the 'diamond' by putting a ruler up to the screen. he thought i was crazy, and really, i am.

i'm a size 5.5-6.

here's my 1ct, which only faces up 6.06mm x6.10mm

eta: my eternity band is 1.54ctw

Here''s an interesting thread from the archives that deals specifically with this subject. I found it just yesterday when I was doing some similar research on this site. It has some very useful info and Garry throws out some nice pics that illustrate the size differences between the round and square cuts.

Here''s one of the pics from the above thread:

Grapegravity posted a neat graphic originally done by Stebbo. I''m reposting it along with his melee chart.

They may come in "hand"y. Get it?

I will also (always) add the usual advice: Judging size by carat weight in these examples presumes the diamonds have appropriate depth % and girdle thickness.

It is always best to correlate carat weight and spread in mm to be sure the stone isn't flat like a pancake or deep like a peg.

A jeweler told me that when you upgrade your diamond, the new rock has to be at least 30% bigger for you to visibly notice a size difference. Not sure how true that is, but the ladies who have upgraded in the past will confirm that no matter how big you go up in size, shrinkage sets in very, very quickly!

Hello all,

I see that grape gravity and John Pollard posted the picture with the princess cut diamonds, but I was wondering if anyone has any comparisons of emerald cut or asscher cut diamonds? A comparison of any size will help. Thanks so much!!

I thought these might help, comparison''s of round vs. square. Not sure why this first one is slanted, must have been that day I drank my lunch.

Round is 7.25 in diameter. Square is 8.34 x 8.20. Close up, I''ll follow with a life like size shot.

Wow there is a difference but it is small. I am getting a 1.7ct asscher. The 2 ct was way to gaudy and the 1.5 just a tad bit too small. So I am super excited!!

Hey, well thanks. That did help compare how mush smaller the square rings face up. I was wondering if anyone else had comparisons of square to square? Thanks!

This might not be too helpful as there are no rounds in the shot, and I hope Snooper chimes in as the left and middle rings are hers...but I believe the emerald is around five carats, the princess is a bit over 3, and the marquise is 1.76 without the halo.
