Diamond setting fee?

I''m having a channel set circle of life necklace made for me. What should I expect a jeweler to charge just to set 36 one pointers in a channel setting? My jeweler quoted me $540 for setting the diamonds. This does not include the cost of the setting or the stones. Does this seem unreasonable? I cannot seem to find a ready made channel set diamond circle.

$15 bucks each.. if they are done right thats cheap but most arent done right so it seems a little high to me for channel setting.
Ask him if he is going to cut seats for each stone or just cut a trench.
For the former the price is good, for the later too high.
