Does anyone know how often does DeBeers increase prices of diamonds? I am doing research now but want to buy before a general price increase. Thanks.

usualy in the early spring once or twice each year.
Thats when the cutters are hunting down rough to cut over the summer/fall for the Christmas season and sets the tone for the year.
Thats also when they get the Christmas numbers and the valentines day numbers so they can tell if last years price rape was too much or if consumers are taking it.
If its a good Christmas season you can count on a large increase the first part of the year.

Their constant raising of prices is becoming very annoying. They are putting the squeeze big time on the small stores and wholesalers. I believe they would like to see them go away but what industry isn''t doing this?

The scary thing about our economy now is that most of the large consumer purchases are coming from loans from equity in homes. August inventory of homes is up, over this time last year. I suspect you will see more inventory, then home prices will re-treat. If that is the case, and who knows, people will have less money to throw away, and demand for some luxury items like diamonds may retreat, but then again, the price of diamonds is totally manipulated anyway, it does not really reflect true supply and demand. Good luck shopping.

Speedbump,

Prices have been going up steadily for what seems like forever - a year or more (at least).

Right now, though, Debeers has dumped a ton of rough on the market. That is bringing prices down a bit.

Unfortunately that doesn''t mean you''ll see any dip in retail prices, although it might give retailers a chance to make back some of the lost margins caused by high rough prices this year...
