0.2mm is a visible difference, so 0.5mm is a big difference. I went from a 7.5mm to 8.2 mm round and the size difference is night and day However, it sounds like you wouldn't be too hung up on size. Get a top cut, though.

I'm not the most graceful person, so I was thinking a large stone (more than 40% finger coverage) probably wouldn't suit me. Mentioned earlier the fear of someone wanting to cut of my finger to steal it too

The setting itself only accommodates up to a 1.25c stone anyway. Also this is all speculation since I haven't actually tried any stones on yet. Wait til after this weekend when I've tried them on! Maybe suddenly I won't want to go under 1.25c
