As suggested, I called GIA and asked them about the comment:
"Cut grade is based on brillianteering on the half-facets".
She said that the cut was downgraded from Excellent to Very Good
because the "facet lines were not sharp".
What effect would this have on light return/brilliance/fire??
I put the info on this diamond through the HCA and it graded excellent on all three, with Very
Good on spread.
What do you think?

Thanks for getting back with us on this.

Sounds like GIA''s terminology for painting: Shifting upper-half facet positions in relation to the bezels so there is ''less definition between them.'' Their language for the opposite is when the halves are strongly tilted away from the bezel, associated with digging, described as a ''sharp edge between the facets.''

There are many experts who disagree with GIA's opinions with regard to painting. They maintain that this may adversely influence contrast in a diamond, but many cutters, analysts and owners of these diamonds will tell you otherwis, and have been brillianteering them in this fashion for over a decade.
