Can someone tell me if this would be a good Asscher stone to have? Here are the stats:

Cut: "cut cornered rectangular step cut"
Meas: 10.73x9.59x6.78
Carat: 5.62
Color: L
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 70.7%
Table: 55%
Girdle: Very thin to medium
Cutlet: Large
Polish: Good
Symetry: Good
Flourescence: Faint

Pinponts not shown; additional extra facets not shown.

Any help you can give would be grreatly appreciated!

that is more on the rectangular classic emerald cut side than the square emerald (asscher) cut side. the large culet is interesting.... and the ''l'' color... it will be noticeably tinted. have you seen this stone in person?

sounds like a very old diamond.
It would have to be seen to know how it looks.
Those old asschers/emerald cuts can be tricky.

Well it''s definitely an EC and not a SE or Asscher.......but it *could* be dreamy, you usually have to see step cuts/fancies in person or good photos. If it is indeed an older stone, the warmth of the "L" could give it a lovely antique look--but again, impossible to say on the #s!

(In general when the certs specifically say "cut-cornered" on the shape description that usually means I''ll like it, but that''s me!

Hi Lady LuLu,

With a stone like the one you describe, you absolutely have to experience it in person to know if it''s the one. Please don''t rely on anyone else''s opinion. The size, color and shape make this stone so unique that only you can determine if it suits you.

Best of luck!

According to the info. you are posting..., it could have the potential of being an Antique Asscher cut!!!
A picture would be helpfull, and is there anyway you can find out howmany steps it incorperates on the pavilion???

Back in the early 1900''s they cut some Asschers with a lenght width ratio of between 1:1.00 to 1:1.25.

Gotta see it with the eyes, but has a very good chance of being a superb looking Asscher!!!

I do not have a picture I can upload here. The stone (ring) can be seen at www.skinnerinc.com under the fine jewelry icon. As soon as you click on the icon, you''ll see the ring - sale #2323, lot #722. As this is an auction item, it could very well be an antique. Thanks for the input!

Like i said..., it looks like a beautifull "older" Asscher cut...
I have a strong feeling it will easily beat the high estimate...

ditto
I wouldnt consider it without seeing it in person.
The way these are cut they do not photograph well due to the very high crown.

Based on the picture, the 55% table and the 70% total depth...., i would bet its a gorgeous GEM...

I am sure it has a "high crown" and figuring these #''s, i would bet it has a 25%+ crown height...

Looks good.

Yes....I''m sure it is stunning...and way out of my league. I might have a chance on the low estimate, but its doubtful. I have learned, however, that auctions just might be a really great way to find something beautiful for a fair price.

I''m such a newbie--I had no idea that the l/w ratio could sometimes be so off square in antique asschers!

Anyway, what a GORGEOUS piece! (let''s see if it will show up any bigger here)

I checked the auction results just now. It sold for $36,425. What a wonderful addition to some lucky person''s collection!
