Buying diamond online

My girlfriend and I are getting married and we have been looking at diamonds and rings at the local jewelry stores. If a diamond is certifed and comes from a well-known online store and is cheaper than the local stores is there any reason not to buy it online?

Is it a bad idea to buy a diamond strictly from the measements and 4Cs without actually seeing it in person?

One local jewerly store employee said you can''t compare diamonds using the 4Cs, is this true?

A - If it is the same exact diamond and you have seen it, its a great idea. If you are buying a diamond online that has the same 4Cs then the online diamond may be more beautiful or less beautiful. The information that you need in not all on the GIA certificate. You will need a Sarin report also. Post the information from both here on PS and you will get some very good feedback or you can go the HCA area here on PS and put in the numbers and see what kind of cut the diamond has.
Q - Is it a bad idea to buy a diamond strictly from the measements and 4Cs without actually seeing it in person?
A - You can buy a diamond using the numbers but you need to know what numbers to look for. Ask the online vendor for a picture of the diamond and the Idealscope. This will give you a very good idea before you actually see it. Any of the online vendor will let you return the diamond if you do not like what it looks like.
Q - One local jewerly store employee said you can''t compare diamonds using the 4Cs, is this true?
A - This is true. You can get in a D Flawless 1ct diamond and if it is not cut right, it will be a DOG. An expensive dog but still a dog. You can also get in a J SI1 that has a beautiful cut, something with a HCL of 1, and it will be more beautiful, and less expensive that the D FL dog.

That is because MOST sales people in jewelry stores think cut is the polish/symmetry.
You can tell everything you need to know about a diamond with the REAL 4Cs (Cut including all %''s and angles)
