Average time guy holds on to a ring before popping the question?

My FI knew that I wanted to design my own ring with a jeweler, who is a good family friend; so, for the proposal, he bought a beautiful natural pearl ring to propose with and for me to wear while I wait for my engagement ring to be done. After he proposed, he told me that it took him a month or so to find a natural pearl (he didn''t want a cultured pearl) that had the parameters he was looking for. After he got the ring, he waited another month to propose. It was important to him to meet my mom before proposing, so that she knows who her daughter is marrying when I tell her that we are engaged. I would have introduced them sooner, but she lives across the country and it took us some time to set up a trip to visit her. He proposed to me two days after we came back from visiting my mom.
