the appraised value and the purchase value is very different on the diamond - is this normal?

Diamond purchased for $5850
Diamond appraised for $9810
That''s a whooping $3960

The short answer: Normal- NO, Common- YES. It''s called a "feel good" appraisal and serves
no useful purpose other than to make the consumer feel that he or she "got a great deal."
In a perfect jewelry world, the seller should issue a "statement of sale" for the actual amount
paid...that document could be submitted to the insurance company for coverage.

My e-ring appraised for 1/3 more than he paid for. I guess it doesn''t really matter because I hope never to lose/damage/or have my e-ring stolen.
