We just gave ours a raise last week, and she came back to DH today saying that it wasn't enough. She didn't have any complaints about the salary when we hired her 6 months ago, and we had over 60 people apply for the job. She's never given us any indication that it was a problem since then either.

We hired her at $450 net a week (we pay all the deductions and taxes) for live-out, plus a metropass ($110 a month). She does housekeeping and looks after our 1 year old. She told DH she'd expect at least $500 net. We're finding it hard to believe she's asking for a raise of more than 10%.

If you live in the GTA and have a nanny, could you please give me an idea what you pay? I've put out some feelers to colleagues to try to get info from them, but haven't had many responses yet. We need to have a better idea of the going rate before we decide what we're going to do.

We pay our Nanny who cleans and looks after our daughter around $659 dollars a week (net). She is an Au Pair from England though, so I am not sure if that makes a difference.

I am in Richmond Hill and she is not live in. I have lots of friends with Nannies so I will ask them what they are paying them and get back to you.

drk i'm not in that area so no help, but i think it's a little messed up that she's asking for such a large raise so soon in when she didn't indicate at all up front she wanted to review pay within a 6mo time period. did she say why she wants the raise--aka is it for competitive reasons where she KNOWS she's underpaid, or because something happened in her life and she needs more $$ or what?? is there something extra she is going to do for the extra $$-- as with any raise normally there's an expectation for higher service levels. is there anyone else in those 60 you interviewed that you might want to get back in contact with to see if you could have them warmed up as a backup in case she bails? good luck.

- DRK, I did a quick google search for you and came across this link that suggested an approximate of $400 per week for live-out: http://www.todaysparent.com/article.jsp?content=923105

- On RFD, people said they paid around 10-11$ per hour (net).

- This blog says $11-$17, or $400-$600: http://nannytoronto.wordpress.com/2008/10/07/nanny-salary-toronto/

Keep in mind your total is 450+110=560. Personally, it sounds about fair, but I don't have any friends with nannies (or kids).

ETA: This Star article states typical pay for live-out is $1600-$2000: http://www.thestar.com/article/592546
