I love my Bichon and I was wondering if anyone else around here has one as a family member!! I''ll post some photos later.

Well, I don''t have a bichon (I actually have a coonhound!) but am curious about their grooming requirements. I have considered getting one at some point in the future because they are allergy friendly, and both BF and I have sinus issues. The biggest downside I''ve seen seems to be that they require a lot of grooming. What do those of you who have one think?

They are great for those that have allergies. I get mine groomed every 8 weeks or so. More often in the summer. My groomer does a lot of Bichons and she does a great job. HTH.
Their grooming requirements really are not that different than any other breed. It all depends on how often you want them done. I use to breed them and my female had a tight curl and my male was more of a straighter hair. He was very easy to take care of because his hair did not get matted up as much as my female. Lilly takes after her dad''s coat. On a weekly basis while watching TV or having some down time, I powder her ears and pull the hair inside so that there is no orange/brown stains near her ears. I also cut her hair near her eyes in a triangle to prevent the orange tearing marks on her face. With my pups, the tearing stopped after 4-6 months and never returned. Other than that, I keep her nails short. With my female and the tight curl, I kept her hair short and very short in the summer. In my area, I have not found a groomer to do the proper "bubble head" cut so I''m glad that Lilly doesn''t need one.Date: 8/26/2008 11:59:02 AM
