The shops I've looked at so far have been Mark Lash, Penwarden and Sin Kim. The highest estimate was at Penwarden, but their design work and customer service was incredible.

What are peoples thoughts on these diamonds:

Would I be better off going a colour grade higher and SI1? The problem with ordering online is that I cannot actually see the diamond, so can't evaluate the inclusions. My thinking was to stick with a VS2 rating and sacrifice on the colour (knowing that I would be able to identify yellow hues from this 40x magnification on James Allen.

Thoughts?

Since you are already going local for the setting, why don't you try Aaron (Diamond Shopper) in Toronto. He gets cut and prices are pretty good. You can see if he will match online prices. Get the cert and post it on here.

CharmyPoo -- let me first say thank you. I ended up going with Sin Kim for the ring (design and construction) and with Aaron for the diamond.

They were both absolutely superb and the final result for the stone and the ring were perfect!

My (now) Fiance loved the ring and couldn't be happier with the selection of both the stone and the design.

Thank you all for your help and for all the advice through the process.
