I found a diamond on a site and the ags report notes its been inscribed hearts and arrows. Who would have inscribed this? is the diamond not new? it has a December 2004 ags date.
The date on the lab report of 2004 is not a concern, diamonds don''t spoil like milk or other grocery items
The H&A inscription is not an indicator that the AGS Laboratory felt that the diamond exhibited a crisp and clear pattern of Hearts & Arrows. The mention of the inscription on the lab report is reflected on the AGS Diamond Quality Document merely as a characteristic of the diamond since it appears on the girdle edge of the stone. The AGS Laboratory may have placed the inscription on the girdle edge of the diamond or it may have been placed on the diamond prior to the diamond being sent to the laboratory for grading... Some of the cutters that we work with do this as a reflection of their opinion of the pattern within the stone despite the fact that we would prefer that they not because it is a point of contention with us (not going into it here because it has been discussed at length on other H&A related threads). Ask the vendor to provide you with photographs of the patterns and then you will be able to determine whether the diamond does in fact exhibit the pattern, there is an excellent tutorial on H&A diamonds here on PS within the tutorials section.
