Hi everyone -
this is my very first post on Pricescope. This site is fantastic and so I''ve learned to much. thaks to all for your posts. well, good news for me is that i''m in the market for an engagement ring - and early 2006 seems to be the lucky year. After all this reserach, and getting some input from her, i/we have decided on an asscher diamond with a halo / pave setting. This week I was able to go to many stores and look at a bunch of diamonds, and i think i got a lot of my questions answered - it was good not to go in there blindly - i think the guys behind the counter knew i did my research.
anyway, now i''m in my final stages i think. I believe i am ready to take the plunge. here are my issues
1. it''s been discussed, but royal asscher vs square emerald/''generic'' asscher. i hate it being referred to as ''generic.'' anyway, based on all the posts, etc, i guess it just comes down to a personal preference if i look the look of the stone. I think there is enough difference between the ''generic'' that can lead me one way or the other. and sure, there is some sex appeal to knowing that would own a genuine, ''royal asscher'' - a fairly rare diamond. but i really like the look of the royal asscher.
2. now a big question i have for all of you is regarding color. I saw a bunch of beautiful asschers recently - in a wide range of colors. I think when there was the bright light, the white paper, and the ring was TURNED OVER i could tell teh difference between the I''s and the F/Gs (barely, but i could tell if i had to put money on it). However, it seemed that when looking at it from the top and shaking the tray back and forth, i could barely/hardly notice anything !! it was more the cut that made the difference of how much it sparkled. The question for all of you now is, if I get an asscher diamond in one of those halo rings with pave setting - would that allow me to go ''lower'' on teh color scale - because we''d really only be seeing the diamond from face up in that type of setting (vs, it''s not in a solitaire setting where you see it from the sides and all)? --- like perhaps i could get a lower colored RA, but the cut would still ensure that it is very bright and sparkly.
3. I guess it''s up to what is acceptable to ME (and my girlfriend) - regarding the diamond specs, (and the large investment) but i have to be honest - so many of the diamonds i saw were AMAZing, and it''s only when i had 3-4 diamonds next to each other in optimal conditions that i had to really push myself to tell teh differnce. i am sure they would all look awesome on the final setting. but, i still want to stay on my budget, and the extra 2-3K for a F/g vs an H/I - ahh all this complicates everything. Sometimes i will i was less educated about this and just got something that looks good. but that damn perfectionist inside me....
