Just wanted to post this pendant. It was a piece of quartz (amethyst quartz?) that my mom''s best friend brought me from her rockhunting expedition in the Ural Mountains. Nothing spectacular, but I wanted to make something out of it just in her memory. I asked a jeweler to facet it but he felt that since it was opaque, it would only lose with faceting and set it in gold as it was.

Cool. Very natural look to setting. Looks kind of like branches seeping into the stone, or like some long fingers. Really neat piece.

I know it looks greyish - one probably could buy something similar in a museum for $ 5.00 but to me it means a lot because this woman had a difficult life, had and raised a child all by herself and died rather young. To me, it is important.

This is view from the back

And more

I liked to do something nice for her. Like LargosMom, I believe that stones, like other things, are keepers of our memories.

How beautiful, not to mention unique! Love how that gentle glow of gold combines with the cold roughness of the stone! And the sentiment makes it even more special.

Organic was the word that came to my mind too...what a lovely flowing piece and I bet you get tons of compliments when you wear it...which only brings back more of your good memories.

That''s very nice and it looks like the jeweler did a very good job of securing the stone. A wonderful way to remember your Mom''s friend. TFS

You have some of the most amazing and unusual peices! This setting looks amazing with that stone, it makes it a fine peice of jewelry without overshadowing the actual stone.

I agree that it probably looks better left alone. In fact, it is more interesting to the eye this way.
