I am pretty proud of these stones. All of these will stay in my private collection. They are on display at a gallery right now but they are all marked NFS!
It is big but not huge. I think it is around 12mm and probably 10 carats or so. I cut that one pretty early on but it really turned out beautiful. Quartz may be a common stone but it sure does glitter when its cut right.
Arc, the material is from Pakistan. I have an on-again off-again supplier that lives in Peshewar and he gets material for me from time to time. I love this stuff. It cuts such a fiery stone.
I do have to say though that your sphene is probably one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. In general, sphene doesn''t respond well to EC type cuts but there is some magic in yours. It is simply stunning.
Unfortunately I can''t offer much in the way of information. The shots were taken with a friends digital SLR. I think it is a Nikon but I don''t remember for sure. We used a telephoto lens. We played around with the lighting a little bit and this is what we came up with. Frankly, these are the best gem shots I have ever done.
The stone is really gorgeous. I''ve got a softspot for sphenes
All of mine seem to be cut pretty well though definitly native cut. the one in my av really shoots light everywhere, its a smidge smaller than your 5ct.
Its making me reconsider and to look at that particular bodycolor again
I finished a little sphene last night that that was mostly an experiment. It won''t ever come up for sale because it has "issues". However, I learned something VERY important from this stone and it will affect how I cut sphene in the future.
This little stone (sorry, no pictures) throws fire like I have never seen before. It has to do with the facet pattern and it comes out with a fantastic range of color with lots of red, green and even BLUE. I am going to cut another one over the next couple of days and I promise pictures will be posted.
