A bunch of questions about settings

hey guys, im starting to do my search about settings. and the buying process..

a few questions :

1) how much platinum is in a ering? since there is a large variable in the diameter and sizes of ring can anyone give me an approximate amount for a size 7 ring, and a plain setting about 3.5mm in diameter? just pick some random numbers..

2) How much are melee stones about 1 points in size F vs2 quality per carat for the jeweler?

3) What is the cost to set into a mount per melee stone


4) why do i feel like people have this big secret that they are hiding from me? like no one is willing to disclose the actual numbers bc it some big secret that i as a customer is not supposed to know..
