All of the virtual DB stones are very obviously VIRTUAL and there are many more jewelers than just PS ones who have access to them. There's no big secret there. No one tries to pretend they own those diamonds.

Any reputable jeweler does have a good return policy for a stone, if you don't like it, return it. As for upgrading or trade-ins, that's a totally individual thing, and each jeweler, even offline, has their own type of policy on that. Hard to compare apples to apples.

I don't see 'convicted felon' anywhere on the list of credentials.

That''s not so much worse than he is called around here. Funny?
9.gif

Clearly the guy is counting on preaching to converts there - otherwise he''d probably care to get his literary talent out of the box for a decent argument
12.gif

The points he makes are not too convincing (upgrades can be done, sure lack of treatment is guaranteed and what''s the point about virtual diamonds? everyone also carries stock and those lists are not a Pricescope thing).

''Guess WF didn''t make a ring for the Super Bowl. Well, so what? That would also disqualify Cartier or Bulgari... silly.

I would not be at all surprised if Jennifer is non-existent and that FC just made her up. I would also bet he posted this thread yesterday.

Quite on the contrary, very appropriate. Thanks for the link. Fred probably doesn't read this forum if he's asking about what kind of REAL diamond experts writing here

Sorry if I forgot somebody, please feel free to add to this list. )

Although these experts can disagree with each other, the discussion here is open and errors can be found and challenged.

Finally, let's do not confuse expertise and salesmanship.

I am glad that I did not make a mistake in posting this ...

Fred's reliance on his media exposure for a statement of his credentials is pretty meaningless too.

I also get a kick out of the fact that his wife is on the site and is giving advice on marriage, relationships and sex---with no credentials or professional training. I read a question which asked her for her credentials and she responded that she was a human being, a wife, and a sister...or something like that. What a bunch of self serving silliness.

just like it is recommended that one get an appraisal of a diamond from an independent appraiser who does NOT sell diamonds - so should one get a recommendation on a diamond vendor from a place that does not sell them.

i wouldn''t trust someone who bashes the competition anyway, but i find it interesting that he slams reputable sellers, and then promotes the ''sister'' company of his that sells.

conflict of interest, i think.

I rather like his line:

“Just because someone calls themselves an expert doesn’t make it true.”

I absolutely agree. Interestingly enough, I can’t think of anyone here who makes a habit of calling themself an expert, including quie a few who I think would be objectively entitled to make that claim if they were inclined to do so. The author of that site, on the other hand, calls himself an expert at almost every opportunity. Hmmmm.

HI:

For one, when searching for indepth/scientific information from experts on gemstones, I always rely on peer reviewed journals such as InStyle and Glamour...

You know what - there are other traders and appraisers who post here who you would have to say are here because of a love of what they do just as much as any commercial reasons.
Brian the Cutter has technical experiance and expertise - Rhino has tested every cut grading gadget known to mankind (even though i disagree with some of his findings), Wink brings experiance, common sense and observations about what people like, Bill from Washington, Nancy, Neil and many other appraisers...... Oh - My, I mentioned some and now those I did not will be put out- so I apologise.

But the one expert who does not participate here - and is more than welcome - is Fred the DiamondGuy.

Well said Gary! I am here for the love of it! And don''t really need the money anymore, as both my kids graduate college in May!

I would also like to see Fred Cuellar participate on PS.

RE: Freddie the "expert".

Fred would not come in this forum.... He certainly does not want to be in a place of fair and open debate. If he were, he have a forum on his site, where he could be exposed for what he is.

I haven''t checked with GIA lately on him, but the last time, he has taken only the GIA''s diamond course. It is interesting that he denegrates WF and Pricescope, and even "afficionados" of having less knowledge than he has.

I have read both his books, and my only conclusion is that many regular consumers have more expertise on the subject of diamonds than he does.

All he does have is either some very good PR skills (or more likely a good PR agent). GIA is very open about what he education he has received from them, and I invite anyone who has the curiousity to get an updated report can receive it by simply faxing the educational verification form that GIA has on their site, to learn the facts of his self appointed expertise.

I find it interesting that he has "targeted" WF. Maybe it is because they represent lost diamond sales for him. ( Yes, Fred sells diamonds) and is located in Texas as is WF, so very possibly he has suffered some affect in his sales becuase of WF.

The interesting part of Pricescope is that when you know who the experts really are in the industry, you learn that the greatest number of them have contributed unselfishly right here. There are very few acknowledged experts that have not been active in many of the PS discussions.

I think the guy is an idiot and less than honest and I dont consider him an expert on diamonds. Val, Belle, Mara, kaleigh, dancing fire, regular guy, and many many more just to just name a few PS prosumers are much more experts in my book than he will ever be.
A lot more trustworthy in my opinion too.

But you know let him have his opinion, reflect on it and learn from it if needed then ignore it.

I have had friends on mine read PS without telling them what name I use here and all of them have figured out who I am from my posts (yes im the same flawed person in daily life as I am online :) anyway.. they have had some very interesting comments that I have shared with Irina/Leonid that type of feedback is much more important than anything this guy would say.

So rather then dwell on anything he may say lets stay focused on what we do best.... helping each other! Sharing with one another! and supporting one another! and arguing with one another in a friendly manner :}

As far as im concerned he is not welcome here.
He is not good for consumers and Id rather not share a board with him.

You know what is REALLY cool about my life?

I know all of those people and with the exception of Serg, and possibly Bruce Harding whom I might have met many years ago but am not sure enough to say that I did for sure, (but I think I did at Tucson once) I have sat down and talked with each and every one of them at least once. DANG that is cool! These are the geniuses of my field and they actually talk to me, the little guy from Boise Idaho.

There are times in my meditations and prayers that I give thanks for that and know I am truly blessed.

Do you know what else is cool?

They would sit down and talk with any of you too! These are the geniuses of my field, and they will actually talk to anyone, anywhere that will take the time to talk to them. You are all really blessed, I hope you know that!

Wink in a really blessed today mood

It's just so sad that Fred is the one preying on the innocent guppies. He talks about people selling diamonds having an agenda, and there he is selling diamonds AND dispensing advice telling people to stay away from other vendors.
38.gif
Obviously, he hasn't even done any research before slamming competitors because we all know that WF does carry in-house inventory of stones that are cut for them. Not to mention the other vendors that do carry their own in-house inventory of cherry-picked stones like Wink, GOG, etc.

Oh well, all we can hope is that those people who are visiting DCI eventually find PS and ask their questions here and get a little real education going on so they can make their own decisions, sometimes they do find us here....questions about 'bonded diamonds' typically are people from DCI who are confused. Go figure!
