Re: Brilliant new solution for snoring

I threaten to smother my husband all of the time. It's always a race to fall asleep before he does and the god awful snoring starts! I'd pay almost any amount of money to stop DHs snoring!

Re: Children's School Projects and Parental Involvement

I had such a visceral reaction to this post that I couldn't even reply yesterday. This is the story of my life with a 3rd and 5th grader. 3rd grader has a science fair project due soon. The rubric is so complicated, requiring her to do graphs and tables to illustrate the data she collected. I'm sorr...

Re: HOA meeting and prayer that ends with "in Jesus' name"

I often find that the people who don't mind are a part of the majority...the "I was raised Christian, but no longer practice" variety. If you've never been part of a minority, then you can't really understand why it makes those of us who are uncomfortable. I'm a practicing Jew who grew up ...

Re: Calling All Lefties!

I am left handed. When I was in kindergarten, the teacher tried to make me become right handed by snatching the pencil or crayon out of my left hand and putting it in my right hand. My mother put a stop to that very quickly. I think a lot of us had that experience (my grandmother, mother and I all ...

Re: Good New Yorker piece on gender and public bathrooms

My university had a "co-ed bathrooms after 12am" rule and we all hated it so much that we (as a dorm) over ruled it. Now, part of that was because of the shower situation, but I would still not be comfortable in a bathroom with men. I also hate sending my young son (age 11) into the men's...

Re: Diamond Earring Studs: Solitares or Halos

I'd do studs with jackets. That way, you get the best of both worlds. IDJ has some great jackets at a reasonable price (at least they did a couple of years ago. I haven't price checked in a while). Tell them you want Pricescope quality stones.

Re: Need help evaluating oval diamonds

Brilliant pattern is fine only for round girdle shape. Some OMB is much worse than OB but some OWB is better than best OB. Good colorless OWB is very rare and it is not easy to find. You selected very interesting sample but "I" color is bad choice for such cuts. First of all, a huge thank...

Re: 2.09 Ct Oval

You can't judge an oval (or any fancy shape) by the numbers. Why can't you get a photo of the stone? Any of the experts here will ask for that (and an ASET) before making any comments. I've not worked with b2c so can't comment, but know that others have been very happy with them.

Nice to "see" you back VL! Hope you're doing ok. My DHs favorite expression when I ask his opinion about something house/decor related is: "my taste is in my mouth". While I get no interference in the decorating choices I make, I also get no help/sounding board, which would be ni...

Re: Psychology Today: College students' emotional fragility

Hello Kenny, just a drive-by posting here. This is very interesting to me, in that as an outsider I see certain trends in American parenting that might be harder for a native to see. Re: Help-buyers remorse with a custom setting...any options?

It IS large (but proportional to your finger in my opinion), but I think living with it for awhile is a good plan. I actually downsized my ring (I started over completely), but I waited a few months to see if my comfort level changed. It didn't, and I'm thrilled with my decision (my "new" ...

Re: Need Urgent Advice.

I'm so sorry that what should have been a joyous occasion was ruined. It sounds like you hadn't discussed diamonds with your GF at all and had no idea that she and her family felt this way? Either way, I think it's terrible that they responded this way. The stone sounds like a beauty. I agree that I...

Re: Curious about history of oval cuts

Quoting from http://www.77diamonds.com/oval-cut-diamonds.html Although oval shaped diamonds were first introduced over 200 years ago, the modern oval cut was invented in the early 1960s by leading Russian cutter Lazare Kaplan. The cut eventually earned him a place in the Jewellers International Hall...
