Re: Orange engagement ring

The ring will look quite close to a cherished family piece [ex-Vienna, five generations back] - 'guess I am biased that way ... Would agree that such intensely colored stones would not need yellow-gold backup - using it would add detail & no more. I might have looked around for a stone right on ...

Re: Orange engagement ring

Montana sounds nice ! If that stone does not fit the bill, perhaps look for a specialist seller of Montana sapphires ? As far as I understand GIA video ( related contact ), the size and shape you are after is straightforward. And some striking straight orange is possible... not unlike the large ston...

Re: Orange engagement ring

Thought: orange(ish)-yellow beats yellow(ish)-orange [re. diamonds]. Perhaps you can get away without 'brownish' [not an absolute sentence]. E.g. FIOY , FVOY You have one of this kind on the list already - a shade closer to yellow still, not that I'd mind trading darkness for that. I'd T&M with ...

Re: Peridot and other green gemstones

Cabs or buff-top stones ought to be possible to re-polish a couple of times, if the setting allows.

Re: Orange engagement ring

" It's just not quite what I'm looking for at the moment." - Tha'd be one fun chase ! If you did not have to end up buying something. Truth be told, I have indulged for way too long in looking around: ended up doing a PhD (using natural pearls). Turns out, my taste has not changed at all. ...

Take a look, if you still have any patience left, http://www.ajsgem.com/sapphire/padparadscha-orange/orange-sapphire-2.56-carats.html Small - that is, not individually discernible, inclusions are OK with me, else I wouldn't mention; at best they'd scatter light a little adding 'body' (like light mis...

Re: What do you think of this 1.20ct ungraded diamond?

I trust you know that it is a diamond, otherwise you would be getting a lab report ! I suspect you could judge whether a top notch cut - judging by standard criteria - is worth that much more to you, or simply this one works nicely. You'd need to see what you might be missing, to know what you are g...

''Malaya'' is mostly used to describe a color or a type of garnet (described as a mix of several, sort of ''all others'' by any account)?    Every yellow-to-red color seems to come under the name, with the price going by the color (hopefully)... so... I assumed t is a name for a type...

IMO, it would sound better to talk about ''performance'' and what not with a bit of research at hand. Would it be possible for your girl to get a plastic ''ring sizing'' set (online?) try it out, and send you the right ring from the bunch?  Even faster should be for her to measure the diameter (two better than one) of a ring she is wearing, if she is wearing one on the same finger as...

No.  The new ones have a cute little drawing of a profile (not related to the shape of the stone, just like the clarity plots) that resembles the format of the new certs for rounds. But there is no extra data.
