Re: 1.7 Brian Gavin vs 1.4 Cartier

Do you think she may ever want to upgrade to a larger stone? If so, I'd go with BGD.

If not, I'd totally go with the Cartier, I adore that particular setting.

Re: Help choosing round diamond for approx 3k

It looks like you have good options, and you can't go too far astray with ACAs.

This one is an ES but almost hits 6mm and looks good http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-26148.htm#

Re: Help! 1 month to choose an eng ring!

If you have some budget flexibility and are happy at I SI2, then I would suggest WF with this combo: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3063720.htm http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/vatche-venus-solitaire-engagement-ring-2377.htm The WF ACAs are top o...

Re: Help! 1 month to choose an eng ring!

I don't have any affiliation with JA, I just thought they were a good match for your budget. I didn't see anything in the 1 ct range at WF, GOG or BGD. If you're willing to go down to an SI1 that might open up some options. Personally I prefer to stay over SI1 for an engagement ring unless the engag...

Re: Help! 1 month to choose an eng ring!

Thank you very much for your reply. Indeed I would want platinum. Is there any reason you would prefer james allen over blue nile? is it simply because you can see the diamond? Also should i pay attention to fluorescence? Thanks again for your input and taking your time to help an unknown! I've alw...

Re: Yellow gold stackers, Etsy vs Brand

HOF makes on in 18K yellow gold, that looks nicer than a lot of the Etsy work, but it's half beaded for $560: http://www.heartsonfire.com/shop-jewelry/rings/wedding-bands/diamondbarbeadedband.aspx

Re: Help! 1 month to choose an eng ring!

Have you looked at James Allen? They ship to Switzerland and have a great selection. This is somewhat similar to the Cartier 1895, and they have other cathedral setting as well: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/14k-white-gold-double-prong-solitaire-item-41059 And this scores well...

Re: Yellow gold stackers, Etsy vs Brand

I haven't seen anything that looks like the bubble ring. If that's what you want, I say go for the Tiffany. The twist bands are better executed. This one looks similar to me, and perhaps you could ask that the twist be a bit more dense to more closely mimic the Tiffany version. https://www.etsy.com/...

I would throw this into the mix too, same stats as your stone but has images (and a trusted old cut diamond vendor to back it up). listing: http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/rings/vintage-and-antique/1-91ct-old-european-cut-diamond-solitaire.html#.VC1qlitAQV0 images: http://jewelsbygrace.smugmug.com/Vint...

Re: Buying a round engagement ring. Budget is $9K. Please he

It sounds like JA might be a good vendor for you then, the have a ton of settings in the $500 range.

This one might be worth looking at and is within budget: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.15-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-358823

Re: losing weight before the baby!?!

My son is 13 months old. I had debated whether to get in shape pre-pregnancy, or just not bother and ended up working out regularly and building a lot of muscle in the year before I got pregnant, and I'm so glad I did. Pregnancy is a really demanding physical process, I don't know how I would have g...

Re: 1935 Carl Gustav Hallberg platinum ring with blue diamon

It's a very pretty ring, congrats on the find! It looks in your pictures as though you can see through the stone at certain angles. In one image I think the setting is visible, in another the background. If that is the case in person as well, then it probably isn't a diamond, diamonds don't display ...

Re: Losing hope with OEC search. Will modern RBC do?

I saw this and thought of your search. It's an AVC rather than an AVR and priced higher than the AVR you were eyeing, BUT it's already in Australia (not sure if the import taxes and shipping would offset the price). http://loupetroop.com/listings/loose-stones-diamond/gorgeous-99-k-vs1-august-vintage...

Donna Karan makes them, and they're perfect for peep toes. I would suggest this route if you can find them!

Re: Is this dress too young looking?

It's a lovely dress, and totally age appropriate as long as it fits properly. In my experience, it's less about what you wear than how you wear it. I work with women who are well into their sixties and still sporting 'on trend' looks that veer away from the too short/too tight trap that most of us f...

Re: Diamond is not only fluorescent but phosphorescent...

That is very cool. What kind of UV emitter are you using? This is common in some other types of gemstones (tenebresecent scapolite, sodalite, hackmanite) but requires a pretty strong UV activation, and can be particular to a particular wavelength. My scapolite won't charge with a little led UV, but w...

Re: old cut ladies willing to help me look for a beauty?

This is a long shot, but before Leon Mege relaunched his website, there was an old cut that was a very low color, maybe an O or P in a Leon halo setting for a very reasonable cost. I think at one point Maisie was considering it for her upgrade. I don't see it listed now, but it was a lovely stone in...

I would check with Infinity Diamonds and Brian Gavin Diamonds. I have a 2 carat L/SI1 BGD Blue and it's gorgeous.
