Re: Tsavorite Ring Journey
I remember this stone - great to see its new home! I also prefer my green garnets on the medium to lighter side. The design of the ring is gorgeous and perfect for the stone! Very well executed by Daniel M too. |

Re: Vanadium Chrysoberyl
Pretty! I really want one eventually because I love greens and pastels, but they're super-expensive. I failed to pull the trigger earlier on one I liked that was reasonably priced at AJS, and someone else bought it (it may have been LD's one that turned out to be an alexandrite because of the color ... |

Re: Determining brilliance of Princess Cut
The best way to ensure brilliance and sparkle is to go with a branded super-ideal cut like Infinity, WF A Cut Above, GOG Signature, Solasfera, BG Signature, etc. But you'll pay a premium for those. The next best bet would be a non-branded stone graded as ideal for light performance by AGS. There's a... |

Re: Question for blue spinel owners
Right now I have two. One shifts between blue and purple - an aspect that I personally love, but I was also looking for one that holds its blue color since I have several purple spinels. I bought a pre-loved one that holds its color very well but is probably too dark. Still, once you get it in the r... |

Re: Where to have stones set?
I take 3 approaches to setting stones: If the stone is a non-calibrated size or otherwise begs for a custom setting, I'll send it to one of my favorite Etsy people. For modern/clean lines, I prefer Daniel M. For intricate, delicate designs, I prefer Heart of Water Jewels, although she's based in Tha... |

All my opals are pretty common. I'd love to have an amazing black opal and typically prefer green-blue play of color (which I guess is better for my wallet since red tends to cost more). Re: Settings for Unusual Cuts
I've been thinking about this a lot, because my new benitoite is a funky shape, sort of an isosceles trillion. Almost like a squat little pear of cleftless heart, and I have no clue how to set it! It's this little guy: http://www.pricescope.com/forum/files/icp/img_20130221_184657.jpg |

Re: Precision cut preference: fancy or simple?
I'm a consumer, not a cutter, but I prefer standard shapes because (1) I prefer symmetry across multiple axes (which is one reason why pears don't usually appeal to me), and (2) fancy shapes are much more difficult and more expensive to find settings for. Re: Help on Aset images between two princess cut diamonds
I like the top and the bottom. The top has more red overall, but the bottom has red all the way out to the edges, which will make it appear bigger. Not a fan of the middle one. Links would be helpful (and are OK to post since you have the diamonds reserved). |

Re: Best way to find out what kind of stone this is...
I think I'd take it to a jeweler who has a refractometer and see what it measures as. Then you wouldn't need to get a full appraisal. My jeweler will do it for free too (dunno if that's true about all of them though). |
