Re: Advice for cushion with trapezoid side stones

Very happy to have found this forum...I've been researching for a few weeks now and could use some advice. I'm looking for a cushion cut with trapezoid side stones. I'm looking to use a ~2.00 ct center stone (F or G, VVS1-VS2) and ~1.00 cttw side stones. Is there a preferred set of dimensions for t...

Re: Thoughts on a reset of my engagement ring please.

Thanks everyone. This is a style I'm liking. http://www.pricescope.com/files/images/image_1024.jpeg Your ring is a size 4.25. What finger size are you now? I'm sure you've got some serious finger coverage with the emerald cut. It would be unusual if you've gone up more than two finger sizes, so I'm...

Re: Three-stone to solitaire?

I personally would keep the 3-stone look. You can wear it on either hand, and it offers lots of finger coverage.

Re: 4 prongs and 6 prongs setting for diamonds

Sticking strictly to a 4 vs 6 prong for a round, I prefer the 6. I personally think it is a richer look, as it echos the shape of the stone. 4-prongs tends to give a bit of a squared off look to a round. Plus it is more protective. Once you go over a carat, 1.5ct with a round, I think a 6-prong is a...

Re: resizing question

Whenever possible, it's best to send a piece back to the originating bench for work (sizing, retipping, etc.), especially if it was a custom piece as they typically would have the correct metal blend for follow up work such as sizing. Another thought, while frustrating to not be able to fit back int...

Re: Re-sizing question...(not sure if this is the right foru

Since there is most likely going to be platinum added to the ring in order to go from a size 5 to a 6, no the cost is not out of line. When the stone is swapped from one ring to another, the prongs may look like they're in great shape to you, but if the stone is a little bit larger than the head tha...

Re: Quick question on sizing a trellis five stone ring?

Because of the structure of the trellis ring with five stones, I wouldn't venture to go more than one to 1.5 sizes down, and that would be after consulting directly with the bench. It may be something that is better off doing one size and then sizing balls.

Re: Does upgrading diamond mean a new ring?

If I have a copy of a Cartier ring with a 2.1 carat diamond does the ring need to completely redone if the diamond is changed to a 3.5 carat diamond? Is it just changing the prongs or would it require major remaking of the ring? Talk to the jeweler who made your ring. Their bench may have the abili...

Re: My ring get so tight during the summer ...

My fingers will range from a size 5.75 in the dead of winter to a tight 7 in the summertime when it's hot and humid up here. I always have my rings sized to a 7 so that I can still wear them when it's hot out, and I put my solitaire in an old fashioned insert style ring guard in winter so that I can...

Re: Two wax models from David Klass

Any thoughts on which one you like better? (One has 1 point stones in the halo and one has 3/4 point stones.) I'm kind of torn. Any other suggested changes? Finally, has anyone ever had sizing issues with a wax model? My local jeweler measured my new size to be a 5 1/2. These models are supposedly ...

Re: How to redo a ruby and diamond band

With 8 rubies and 8 round diamonds you could do a really cool pendant! If it was my project, I'd add a few sapphires to it to make it a patriotic one. There's always a station (DBTY) necklace or even a bracelet...oh so many possibilities!

Re: Help PLEASE! choosing ring/most economical way.

Just a thought, but why not think outside the box and go for a nice diamond band instead of the traditional engagement ring? I've had clients decide to forego the traditional diamond solitaire and get a beautiful diamond band or even an eternity band that serves as both engagement and wedding band. ...

You may also want to check out the Lyria designs from Paradedesign. They do very whimsical, ethereal designs, and their signature crown looks like flower petals holding the center stone.

Re: Do jewelers accept old setting towards cost of new setti

You may want to consider consignment, or listing it for sale yourself on a site like diamondbistro.com as a semi-mount. You'd need to give the measurements of what size center stone fits in there. Selling as a semi-mount instead of scrapping it would give you more money as when a piece is scrapped y...

Re: ISO: Cathedral Tapered Pave setting

$250 to customize a setting with pave diamonds is not bad, considering the labor involved. These are just a few settings I thought you might like (we are not vendors of any of these companies). Not as low set as what you have, and some may not taper in towards the center stone, but just to give you ...

That is just drop dead gorgeous!!! The color of the sapphire is just drool worthy, and the setting for it is just perfect. Love the triple split on the sides. Just spectacular!
Re: 20+ Carats! Drool Worthy!

I would be hard pressed to choose between the top or the bottom one! The bottom one because it seems to be set so nice and tight (prongs are not obtrusive at all), and the top because the size looks really comfortable. For my fingers, the best size for my hand is an eternity with .15-.20ct each ston...

Re: French cut eternity ring---sizing help please

I can wear anything from a size 5.75 in winter to a 7.25 in summer, so when we bought my T&Co. eternity we went with a size 7. My e-ring is also a size 7, and while it will slip around in winter, I wear a diamond insert guard with it when it's really cold. It's better to have it sliding than not...

Re: $20k for custom engagement ring?

This is just my opinion: The ring you posted from BE is such a popular design, that there is no need to go the expensive custom route. Re: Advice/Help looking for a similar ring set.

I would check both the Stuller and the Unique Settings sites. It's a fairly simple design, and bypasses (as well as twin rings) seem to be coming back into style, so they shouldn't be hard to find. On US, look in the engagement sets, semi-mount area. This way a peg head can be used for the emerald c...

Re: Ideas Needed on how to spend $6k!

Hmmm...does it have to be a ring? Just going by the title of the thread, if I had $6,000 to spend on jewelry, I'd be looking into a daily-wear, bezel set bracelet, or a really nice signature piece necklace. I had a gorgeous locket with over a carat of diamonds on it. I sooooooo miss that piece!
