Re: $20k for custom engagement ring?

This is just my opinion: The ring you posted from BE is such a popular design, that there is no need to go the expensive custom route. Most of the manufactures that jewelers keep in their stable make several versions of it, ranging from plain as you linked us to encrusted with diamonds. I would go t...

Re: Advice/Help looking for a similar ring set.

I would check both the Stuller and the Unique Settings sites. It's a fairly simple design, and bypasses (as well as twin rings) seem to be coming back into style, so they shouldn't be hard to find. On US, look in the engagement sets, semi-mount area. This way a peg head can be used for the emerald c...

Re: Ideas Needed on how to spend $6k!

Hmmm...does it have to be a ring? Just going by the title of the thread, if I had $6,000 to spend on jewelry, I'd be looking into a daily-wear, bezel set bracelet, or a really nice signature piece necklace. I had a gorgeous locket with over a carat of diamonds on it. I sooooooo miss that piece!

I'm in Northwestern Warren County, NJ, and we got about 27" from Jonas. They had forecasted 4-6" for our area, lol. My cars are still half buried in the snow, and because I spent the weekend sick, digging out anything unnecessary was just not in the cards. I'll finish digging out my car ev...

Re: 4 prong or 6 prong for Low Colored Stone in WG

Just my two cents, but I always recommend going with a 6-prong vs 4 for a round over a carat. The 6-prong offers more protection against loss than a 4, plus I personally like the way a 6-prong echoes the shape of the stone. Light enters the stone from the table, so that shouldn't be an issue. My rin...

Re: 60% of men think 1ct Ering is too big

I grew up in the typical NJ Italian circles, and the women thought anything under 1.5cts as a starter was too small (even the grandma's would say, "Whatsamatter, he can't afford to take care of you??? How's he going to take care of the children when they come along!"), while the men though...

Re: Which 5 stone round is more modern? Graduated / equal si

I personally am a fan of the graduated sides look. I like the way it draws the eye upwards to the center, and makes a nice transition from sides to metal shank.

Re: Platinum Ring Sizing

I can wear anywhere from a 5.75 to a 7 depending on the weather (my fingers swell up in the hot, humid summers here in NJ), so I always go with the largest size (7), even though come winter my rings will be ready to fall off. You can definitely see a gap between my ring finger and pinky because of t...

Re: The jeweller dropped my stone!!

Many, MANY moons ago (about 17 years ago to be exact), on my very first day working for a jeweler in Charlotte, NC we had a client ask to see a few loose diamonds in the 2ct range. My manager handled the diamonds, but the first stone he took out of the paper with tweezers hadn't been locked in, and ...

Either ask her straight out what her finger size is, or ask her BFF/mom/sister. Most likely any of the three would know it.

Re: Do you take off your ring(s) when you get home?

I take my rings off to cook, wash dishes, or wash my face, other than that my ering is always on. My wedding band I wear sometimes but is always off at night because my hands swell while sleeping. I'm like that with both of my rings. I take them off while cooking, doing dishes, gardening, washing m...

Re: Add channel set diamonds to band?

It really depends on how the ring is made, but typically a channel set ring that was made to be an engagement ring is going to have a gap where the head for the center stone sits, and to attempt to remove the head, channel set stones were there are not supposed to be any is going be reinventing the ...

Re: Need help- Harry Winston type setting with shallow diamo

Can your son talk to her BFF or maybe to her in a casual conversation to find out what she would want? Some women can't stand the look of the prongs being mounted on a band (looks like you can snap off the head without much effort), while others seriously dislike the look of an airline cathedral set...

Re: Help finding a setting with a little vintage style?

I would start by browsing GordonClark.com, Coastdiamonds.com, antiqueengagementrings.com, and believe it or not, Ebay, as a source for vintage settings as well as modern settings with a vintage flavor. You can get an idea of what you like and what you don't like from those sites alone. Even if you g...

Re: Mom's With 2 or more under 5 - what ring do you wear?

Our four children are older now, ranging in ages of 8 through 16, but when they were babies, I wore a bezel set 5-stone band. It was wider, and low-set. I left my solitaire in the ring box unless we were going out somewhere, or the little ones were asleep. I've had my Vatche Grace halo for three yea...

Re: Help me find a replica Tiffany setting for my 2 ct WF AC

Melissa, How tall is the head on Vatche U-113? Generally low, medium, and tall heads are available. I like to see the culet which is why I'm asking. It is a medium height, and if we ask them to set the stone so that the culet is visible, they will do so. They make each ring to the client's specs.

Re: Help me find a replica Tiffany setting for my 2 ct WF AC

Go with the Vatche. It will probably take two weeks on average. It could take just as long sending it to another ring maker outside of WF. Many people here including myself have the Vatche U-113 and love it. Ask for 95%platinum/5%ruthenium (better alloy than the standard one). There is no cost to a...

Re: Is this cocktail ring dated?

If by dated you mean "out of style," not at all. The ballerina style has been around for hundreds of years, but that doesn't mean it's dated, out of style, etc. I'm a big fan of cocktail pieces, and especially the ballerina ring and the insert guard rings. To me, they are the icing on the ...

Re: Indented Natural
