Re: Anyone been through a divorce before? Seeking advice.

As a wife who's been through just about everything she can possibly go through with her husband, I wish you strength. It can be scary, but every coin has a flip side. We choose which side of the coin we want to see on the daily. See the advantages of starting over at your age because you are so youn...

Re: resizing conundrum

Do you have an issue with your knuckle being a larger size than your finger where the ring sits? Talk to Caysie about putting a Surefit, Snap-tite, or other adjustable shank in there. No one but you would see it as the bottom half of the shank would be replaced. If it's only about a quarter size you...

Re: Help!Tiffany-style compromise setting??

I know there are a lot of threads out there comparing the Tiff-style settings but my question is rather unique. As mentioned in my other thread, I'm not sure I'm happy with my stone in its current 5 stone setting (although the setting is lovely) because I feel it takes away from the center diamond....

Re: Bracelet and Earrings search

It depends on what kind of earrings and bracelet you are looking for. If you're wanting classic studs and a tennis bracelet, you should determine what size stones you are most comfortable with on your ears.

Re: Matching sets still in fashion?

I remember my mom had a matching bracelet, earrings and ring set of beautiful diamonds, and I would like to know if that is still in fashion? Do people still match all their jewelry or is that a thing of the past? Beautiful jewelry never goes out of fashion, and a suite of pieces can be mixed with ...

Re: Criteria for choosing metal setting

The first thing I would take into consideration is if you have any allergies. White gold contains nickel, which some people are sensitive to. Rose gold has a lot of copper in it. How hard on your jewelry are you? I know I am hard on mine, which is why I chose platinum. I'm also in the hot tub a lot ...

Re: Let her choose?

When my husband proposed, we were already living together, and had just had a baby a few months earlier. We've made just about every major decision together, and the ring was no exception. We picked out my diamond together. He actually wanted to spend way more than I was comfortable with (the ring h...

Re: Name for this type of setting?

Long time lurker, but first time poster here. I'm hoping all the experts here can shed some light on terminology. Is there a name for this type of setting? I mean specifically the part where the diamond is fixed - it looks like it's in prongs, but the prongs grow out of the shoulders, not attach to...

Re: Show me your M, N, O colored diamonds!

I'm happy to report that I'm very pleased with my yellow tooth N SI 1 diamond! Thanks Taylorbug for posting a link to mine. I have a couple of diamonds that are "higher" in color but much smaller in ct. I knew that I wanted huge finger coverage so I sacrificed color for my 3ct. And boy do...

Re: Changing From A Ring Setting To A Pendant

Attempting to repair the current ring and wear it out would be more dangerous to the diamond than having it reset into a pendant. Pendants don't take very much abuse. :naughty:

Re: Is the halo too big/chunky?

You are the one who commissioned the ring, and who will be wearing it daily. If it is not what you asked and paid for, speak up! Personally, I think the diamonds in the halo do look more cocktailish than halo engagement, and the shank is a bit overwhelming to the overall design of it.

Re: Selective when wearing big jewels?

I live in NJ, and where I grew up my 1.27ct would be looked down upon for being small. It was pretty much the norm in our circles that your engagement ring be a minimum 1.5ct, and if it wasn't, the guys would be talked about as if they were paupers (mostly by my older female relatives..."Whatss...

Re: Is Platinum More Durable Than White Gold?

Many jewelers offer 18kwg/Pal now. That's 18k white gold with palladium as the alloy instead of nickel. The benefit of this is first, hypoallergenic. Second, when the rhodium plating of your brand shiny ring wears off, instead of looking very yellowish, it keeps it whiter as palladium is in the plat...

Re: To fluorescence or to not fluorescence that is the quest

I personally am a huge fan of fluorescence, and tend to look for stones with the phenomenon. I also appreciate diamonds of all different colors, so a diamond with lower color (between J and Q) that has MB to VSB would be a cool find. My daily wear rings have a few stones that range from faint to VSB...

Re: Is Platinum More Durable Than White Gold?

Something that is not mentioned in the article is the effects of chlorine on white gold, or that even yellow gold can have a problem with chlorine. If you plan to not take your rings off when swimming or cleaning, it is not advisable to get a white or yellow gold ring. Chlorine reacts with the alloy...

Re: How easy and how much can you typically resize pave sett

Always have a pave ring custom made unless the stock setting is the right size. It's best to never to size a pave setting. Everyone's finger size varies due to weather, etc, so you generally go for the size they wear comfortably in the summer or when the fingers are most swollen. The engagement rin...

Re: Need a Jewelers honest answer

I have my mother's ring that my father gave to her before she passed that I'm posed to give to my love. Moms ring size was around a 6 and it needs to become an 11 or so. Re: Which platinum alloy mix does VATCHE use now?

I deal with Vatche a few times a week. The standard blend (unless otherwise requested) is PT950 with ruthenium as the alloy. Upon request, they will do the 950 with iridium or 900 with iridium. I have yet to have a request for 900 with ruthenium. Their 18kwg is done with a palladium alloy, so that a...

Re: cleaning Pave

The ammonia-dawn-hot water recipe works really well on pave pieces, which can be incredibly difficult to get clean. You have to be careful with pave and not use ultrasonic cleaning methods frequently, as it can loosen up the stones. In a pinch, hot water and white vinegar (50/50 blend) works well, b...
