Re: VAPID Lapid, Yo

Yes, she really came home Friday! It has been a lot more work for me. The hospital social worker st Mt Sinai Beth Israel was horrible, except horrible is an understatement. She did not set us up with any home nursing or outpatient rehab, both of which I Was told she would do before discharge. She di...

Thank you all for helping me not fall apart! Yesterdays surgery started 2 hours late and lasted six hours. They removed nearly all of the tumor. The remaining portion that impinges on the nerves that control the right eye muscles they left, to radiate later. SO was a very bad patient, complaining, d...

Re: VAPID Lapid, Yo

Thanks for all your support and thoughts. The surgery is postponed to monday morning. Swelling of brain is coming down with steroids. MRI showed the mass is not entangled with the adjacent artery to the brain. It has just pushed it out of the way so the artery is lying on top of it. The tricky part ...

Hi Momhappy, I've read your thread now. I didn't click on it initially because I'm about the least fashionable person I know, so had no advice for you! The thread is a good example of linguistic bullying though. It's unfortunate when a person says something quite innocently and then is raked over t...

Re: Words some people still use that most find offensive...

This one has not been mentioned...I get extremely miffed when people curse or exclaim using religious references, and it's usually those that are oblivious that it is offensive to Christians to hear the Lord's name spewed out for anything and everything that's gone south. Oh Geez!!!! (came from the...

The Irish and Canadians are different races ? Aren't they all humans? My great great grandfather was a Canadian, a ship builder in Maitland. His parents came there from Ireland, descended from who knows what, Leprechauns I would guess. I was born in New York. If my racial background isn't simply Hum...

Since the question is about language, not necessarily about racist language, I would like to say, I hate when people use the word "discourse" as a verb. Immediately it tells me that they are pretentious poseurs who go out of their way to sound intelligent since they are unable to be intell...

Thank you iLander. It is very sweet of you. Gene doesn't always send out an email when he adds stones. I doubt anyone has fallen off the mailing list. I didn't get one either, but I was checking daily to see if he added anything and saw these last night.

Re: Can I get some feedback on this stone and setting from N

You have a decidedly healthy budget, from which you can get a knock put sapphire ring. If montans is the locale you would like to source from there is a fantastic stone at gemfix right now that is less than half your budget. Half of the balance could get a world class goldsmith to fabricate a ring f...

Re: Can I get some feedback on this stone and setting from N

Firstly, excise that video of the ring from you memory. It is entirely digital and sooooooooo false. Second that stone is in no way shape or form "vivid"; it is pale with a strong grey mask. (of course this is all based on the video and imagery provided by nsc). That window would be great ...

Suggestions for a Gift Wanted

Dear Colored Stoners, As many of you know, my SO has been going through a lot of health issues. The one that we have been battling most for the last 10 months is this awful Osteonecrosis of the jaw. Let's skip the disease and get to the subject. As many of you will know from experience, there is oft...

Re: Can we talk cameras?

I confess I like the retro look, but I was a photo major in the '80s and for hand work we all wanted a leica. For my real work I use Linhof 4 x 5 and 8 x 10 cameras, or ones I build specially for the lens. The fuji has a special macro mode that lets you get 6 inches from the subject. The other has m...

Re: Do you own an electric kettle? Do you use it?

I have two! Both are Breville, and I use them all the time. Not just for tea either. Any time I need hot water I use it. Once a month, when I put bleach down the drains to prevent clogs, I heat the drain first, and then put in the bleach, then flush that with another kettle of boiling water. If I am...
