I think it is an attractive topaz and don't really mind the window, but the price is objectionable. I like topaz in the orange pink purple spectrum. It is my birthstone also. AJS and Spectralgems have some nice topaz. Check gemfix as well. |

WoW No re-cut will be able to change the 50% depth unless you would be content with two .75 carat stones. A special custom setting is the way I would go. Either having the back foiled, or a setting with the interior of the basket "faceted" and polished to mimic a deeper stone. Or possibly ... |

I do believe holes, or rather openings, in and around the basket will aid in light performance, but I doubt that on a regular day much light is being emitted by my finger. Most stones in the upper register of RI, when well cut, return light from the viewer rather then allowing the viewer to look through them at the dirt that has collected behind them. blocking out is best done with a wet diamond saw. If you haven't one there are diamond disk saws that fit on the end of a dremel or similar tool. Since you have to do this wet, only try this with a flex shaft tool so you can keep all the electric parts away from the water. If you have no way to saw ... |
