Re: Setting help and stone question
Beautiful motif for a pendant 8-) I can't tell enough about the setting to say for sure, that usually takes an inspection, my gut tells me it won't fit as is, but it could also quite easily be adapted with another head for your stone. Heat treatment is a common method of treatment for just about all... |

Re: Show me your Trillion cut settings
This is a piece I made for my wife, it has a lot of sentiment as it was her very first precision cut (that she cut herself) out of a very fine Nigerian rubellite rough. The Tourmaline is 3.87ct, IIRC, the mounting is a custom alloy of 18K YG, and a little over 3ct of diamonds in it. Picture is indoo... |

Re: Assistance with sourcing Paraiba Tourmaline
As far as I know, they are all heat treated. I have seen some unheated rough and it looks like a real dud compared to after heating, so if you want top color, then you will get a heated one, and as others have said the heating is so low it's undetectable (if done right). Also as TL said, no picture ... |

Re: Is the premium price for precision stones worth it to yo
This is such a shame. I guess economies of scale really drive these things. Personally I'm a huge huge fan of cut, even above everything else for gems. So when I ask these questions, I am applying it to mainly fancy diamonds. For the regular colourless rough, there are already many precision houses... |

Re: Is the premium price for precision stones worth it to yo
Is there a reason why none of the gem cutters work with diamonds? There are few if any fancy coloured diamond cutters with a name that I can find... Would be interesting to know if anyone does that kind of stuff. Or is the market too small? Or the rough too difficult to obtain? Years ago, when I ha... |

Re: Precision cut preference: fancy or simple?
I, for one, really really really prefer fancy cuts over anything else, to the point that I will not cut a SRB, unless it's by specific request, just too boring for me. I mean, I do cut stones to sell, don't get me wrong - I have to sell some in order to keep buying other rough for other interesting ... |

Re: Tiny pink sapphires!

Re: Gemsny reputable / sapphire recommendation?
O.K., I agree that the best labs do not not offer appraisals, and that is a great reason to use those labs and rely on their reports. But then, on the flip side, how come some qualified appraisers, some probably advertised on this forum, are allowed to "buy and sell", as long as it is dis... |

Re: Is the premium price for precision stones worth it to yo
I can't speak for all precision cutters, only for my self, but there is little room in the market for recutting and adding value to the stone without charging a premium for the effort. Re: made too small?
Normally if you can tilt a stone into a mount it will be a near perfect fit. A good jeweler will be able to set that without any issues. for a beautiful match-up with stone and setting.

Re: My ray of sunshine
Beautiful stone, yellow beryl, is one of the least expensive beryls, it's fairly plentiful, and not that much demand, so it has some very easy price points. |

Re: Gemsny reputable / sapphire recommendation?
I also have a real aggravation for any lab that renders an appraisal of value. This duality has been challeng... |

Re: Are PSers more demanding, our expectations too high?
To answer ZestfullyBling's side question, Argentium SIlver is just a few dollars more per ounce than traditional Sterling Silver, eg. when SS sells for $36/oz I buy Argentium Silver at about $38.50/oz. Forum Rules: I can't comment on the discrepancy in pricing on the gold vs. Argentium. |

I think you need to consult with an attorney, we are not qualified to render a legal opinion, especially on international and customs matters. I know, if you pay it is tantamount to an admission, and you may never recoup your money, so get a legal expert to give you advice first. |

Re: How long does it take to cut a sapphire?
Montage, that sounds like a rather inefficient way to cut, unless you are maybe cutting 8 stones all identical size and design. Don't dismiss the morganite as a RHR, it is the same as an emerald in hardness, structure, and chemical composition, differing only in it's coloring agents, and I see tons of emeralds worn daily as RHR. The morganite will be cheaper to replace if ever needed, unlike an emerald. I can't comment on an... |
