Re: Eye brow products for a novice

I've had a big scar down the middle of my left eyebrow for most of my life so I am pretty expert at filling in my brows. I've done a decent job with a pencil, but the problem with the pencil is it doesn't stick really well to the shiny areas of my scar, and rubs off easily in warm/sweaty weather. I'...

Re: Experience with knee injury - torn meniscus and/or ACL?

I severed my ACL skiing 4 years ago, I had surgery - an artificial LARS graft. The artificial graft has the advantage of a much shorter recovery time, but it was still a solid 6 months of my life in pre-hab, post surgery and re-hab. And it's still never been the same, it's fine to walk, and ski on, ...

Re: Another drinking thread....advice requested

I've never been a super big drinker, I don't drink every day by any means. But boy I do love me some drink! When my husband and I were in the US recently on holiday a friend mentioned that he was taking a month off drinking, I casually said 'that sounds like a good idea, I should do that too'. My hu...

Re: Do you own an electric kettle? Do you use it?

Of course I do! (But I'm in Australia - I don't think there would be a household in Australia that doesn't have one). I suppose it depends what you use the water for, for tea making it's by far the best. The auto shutoff means the water isn't boiling and boiling before you get to it to turn it off....

Re: Skin Troubles at 40

Stress, poor nutrition, dehydration, lack of sleep etc can certainly leave your skin looking less than it's best. However, I doubt this is responsible for brown pigmentation patches, therefore removing those factors won't take the splotches away but will possibly give you an improvement in the overa...

Re: Handbag Museum, Largest Handbag Museum in the World!

I went there when we were in Amsterdam last year. We stayed in a gorgeous canal house on the next corner (The Vanguard).

The collection is very interesting, and the house is lovely in itself. It's a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Re: Do men hit on you?

Sometimes yes. Some men do turn their heads to check me out on the street and at least twice in the last few months, when we have been out at a bar, my husband has come back from getting drinks to find someone trying to chat me up. I think I'm a little more than averagely attractive for my age, I lo...

Re: Europe trip -- where to go?

You can't go to Belgium and miss Bruges. It is becoming very, very crowded however. If your husband loves beer make sure you visit T'Arendsnest in Amsterdam, Delerium in Brussels and T'Brugs Beertje in Bruges. Prague is delightful, but is not really close to Brussels, it's on the other side of Germa...

Re: Is this Tiffany Gold Infinity Ring Real?

I'm voting fake actually. To me, the print on the bag is slightly wonky, authentic Tiffany packaging is as perfect as their jewellery. Also, the packaging seems slightly too green, rather than true Tiffany blue. IMO, the counterfeiters get it nearly right, they just don't get quite the right hue. I'...

Re: Double charged by hotel through Expedia booking - help!

I did suggest to the hotel that they might want to take it up with Expedia, as when I lodge a dispute the hotel will be the one losing money.

Thanks everyone!

Re: What did you eat for breakfast this morning?

Smoothie here too, my usual - half a banana, a handful of berries, almond milk and non-fat greek yoghurt.

Preceeded by a glass of hot water with lemon and followed by a cup of green tea.

I have a Kitchenaid blender, it smoothies well.

Double charged by hotel through Expedia booking - help!

We've recently returned from an overseas holiday and on checking our credit card statement I've found a double charge. Re: What do you wear to work?

Dress pants, a nice dressy tank and a cardigan. And black knee-his with black flat close-toed shoes. I work in a hospital and have to cover all my tattoos. I don't mind, though, since it's always FREEZING in my office. In the summer, I shed the cardigan and switch to flip-flops when I leave, so I'm...

Someone posting 'where I live, blah blah blah' is not necessarily expecting you know or remember exactly where they live. It may be pertinent to the topic to be specific about the location, but it may not be. It may just be exactly that, where they live there are different customs, etc. I've made si...

Re: What do you wear to work?

Tailored pants or skirts, with a blouse, a jacket if I have an external meeting. I have a wardrobe full of jersey wrap dresses, they are a staple for me. Always heels, always closed toe even in summer. Opaque tights in winter, nude hose in summer except on the hottest days. I have a huge wardrobe. L...

Re: Hair too fine for updos? HOT BUNS!!

My hair is super fine too, but, sadly, also extremely thin. I recently discovered the doughnut things and was absolutely overjoyed that there was finally something I could to do dress up my pathetic mop. I had to buy the mini ones that come in a set of two for pigtail buns, because I don't have eno...

That's a nifty tool. I have something that works the same way but without the snap fastener, so it always ends up coming undone. I like using the donut best, as I like the less perfect, more messy, 'sideswept' effect. Like this - http://www.pricescope.com/files/images/balletbun.jpg MishB!! I puffy-...

Re: fireworks.

I do love them, as mentioned, only the big public displays here in Australia, 'private' fireworks are banned, I don't think you can buy them/set them off without a special license. Re: What does your SO think about your appearance?

My weight has fluctuated during our relationship, right now I'm probably 15 kgs (30-35 lbs?) heavier than I was when we first met. Re: What do you think of vow renewal ceremonies?

When my husband and I got married, it was by mutual decision. He made a joke a while ago that 'I proposed to him' and that had bothered me ever since. So on our 10th anniversary early this year, he surprised me with a beautiful (really beautiful) ring and asked if I would renew our vows with him. I ...

Re: Have you had any cosmetic procedures or surgery?

I've been having a little botox once a year for the last 2 years, I have never had any forehead lines (I'm 45) but I thought I was getting a little pinched, angry look between the brows. Also, a little filler in my top lip to smooth out some vertical 'smokers' lines, even though I don't smoke. And a...

Re: Is it legal for restaurants to add automatic gratuity...

We regularly receive good service in the restaurants we frequent, but I agree that in more casual cafes it can be unreliable, student waiters etc. I guess it also depends on what you consider good service. I don't particularly like the obsequious service that is common in America, I don't want to kn...

Re: Is it legal for restaurants to add automatic gratuity...

If they had removed the gratuity and then raised minimum wage.... imagine what the cost of food and services will be? Probably what we pay here in Australia! So many people are horrified by the prices here. I know I look forward to eating out more in the US because it is so much cheaper. My husband...

Mani/pedis, although I exchanged that for eyelash extensions so no real net saving there. Re: Window Treatments- what is popular these days?

It also depends on the style of your house and your furniture. My house is a period weatherboard cottage with a modern extension at the rear. All of our windows have off-white roman blinds. In the front, original part of the house I also have drapes - a drop of blockout drape on either side of the w...
