Re: Your thoughts on chemotherapy for cancer treatment

I had concurrent chemo and radiation therapy last year, it finished a year ago today actually. I coped very well with the chemo, had almost no ill effects. I had a PICC line and a pump that I had to drag around for 6 weeks, that was probably the worst of it. So far so good, whether it was thanks to ...

Re: Cake oopsie

I had a similar problem, although it was (technically) my fault. We eloped to Colorado, our wedding date was 5 February. When I ordered the cake I wrote 5/2/2003 as the date required. In Australia, that is the 5 February, it totally skipped my mind that in the US the date is written as the month fir...

Re: Trayvon Martin. Why are we not talking about this?

I have also been following this case from Australia. However, we're certainly not squeaky clean down here, how about this horrible story: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-03-21/brazil-condemns-student27s-sydney-taser-death/3902782 Basically, a 21 year old Brazilian student chased down by at least 5 p...

Re: Did anyone here get laser eye surgery?

I had mine (Lasik) done several years ago. Absolutely no complications. I'd worn glasses/contacts for over 20 years, and now I don't even think about it. It was expensive (it is pricey here in Australia) but it was the best money I ever spent. My husband had his done a couple of years ago, he sad so...

Re: New Yorkers, I need your awesomest help!

Not a New Yorker, just a tourist but I can tell you what I love about the place. We ate some incredible food but the two things that stuck out for me are Junior's cheesecake, and the pastrami sandwiches. :lickout: Hire bikes and ride around Central Park. Take the Staten Island ferry past the Statue ...

Re: Recommends a hotel for my Italy Trip please!

We stayed here on our last trip to Venice, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite overlooking the Grande Canal. It was simply divine, I didn't want to leave.

Re: Anyone Else Get a Soda Maker?

We just exchanged ours at Bed Bath & Beyond. We gave them the old one and the gave us a new one for $15, just like MishB said. No big deal. Not sure about the environmental impact of that. You can put in your zip code here, and they will tell you which retailers near you exchange the cylinders,...

Re: Anyone Else Get a Soda Maker?

Has anyone found local places to recharge your canisters? I have been lusting after one. I drink carbonated water for the most part and buy cases of cans of it. The idea of having unlimited carbonated water, no cans in my fridge, not having to carry it from the grocer, etc was appealing. However, f...

Re: Anyone Else Get a Soda Maker?

I have one, and most of my family and friends all have them too, either as gifts from me, or on my recommendation. There are so many positives - a never ending supply of fizzy, not having to carry heavy bottles home, much better for the environment, the syrups are lower in sugar than premade soda an...

Re: For our Kitty Owners...Soft claws?

Yep, strategic furniture selection. One of our cats will scratch textured sofa fabric so we have new sofas with smooth fabric he can't get his claws into. The other one is into leather... we've just gotten rid of our leather dining chairs (and replaced with timber) as every one had little pock-marks...

Re: Royal Jewels

Just the other day I caught an episode of a TV series called 'Royal Jewels'. This one was about the Danish royal jewels, and featured Crown Princess Mary talking about the jewelery she has been gifted with, and about redesigning the tiara to fit her head shape. She talked at length about being a cus...

Holy cow!!! That is beautiful. That is indeed an original setting, my 5 stone wedding ring is set in a similar basket type setting, I have been told it's late Victorian or Edwardian. Re: if you were interviewing someone about a job position...

It wouldn't be an issue for me at all. A couple of the young ladies who work for me regularly wear 'designer' labels and carry 'designer' bags. They don't earn very large salaries, so unless they have trust funds or very rich husbands, I suspect they are fakes. It might distract me though. I went to...

Re: AMANDA KNOX IS FREE!

I've also read quite a bit about the Monster of Florence case. Due to the police and prosecutors mishandling of that case, the murderer of up to 16 people went free as well. From the beginning I never believed Amanda Knox was guilty, but I did fear she would spend the rest of her life in an Italian ...

Re: aussies...help!

So I disagree with you, there's no need to get your knickers in a knot.

Incidentally, I don't think I have ever received a letter posted in Australia that was addressed as you suggested.

Did you go to school in Australia? I'm just curious.

No, you said the suburb, state and postcode all on different lines, whereas I have always known these to all be on the same line. The usual way is:

Ms Jane Smith

Suburb NSW 2014
AUSTRALIA

NSW being the state and 2014 the postcode (zipcode). You don't need to also include the city.

Re: Please tell me how to safely stop on a bike

I'm still getting used to riding my road bike with proper bikes shoes with cleats and clip-in pedals. I had one low speed fall when the bike leant to the side where my foot was still clipped in, and a near miss today, in the traffic, it was a bit scary. My tip is just practice, and consistency. Re: Have you ever done or considered permanent makeup?

I have considered it. I have a big scar that runs up the middle of one of my brows, no hair grows on it so I have to pencil it everyday, and I feel uncomfortable without makeup. It's the one thing I would love to change about my face.

I would really love to see some photos.

:MUCH DUST: for Henry's complete recovery.

Our boy Ziggy had the crystals, he didn't need surgery but he was a very sore and sick little guy for a while, it was scary and worrying.

Now he's been exclusively on the prescription food for a couple of years he is terrifically fit and healthy.

Re: Will you watch Prince William and Kate's wedding?

In regards to Pippa in white, I think I read that in British culture the bridesmaids wear the same color as the bride. I read years ago that the purpose of the bridesmaid is to confuse evil spirits (I think?) so that they don't know which woman is the bride. If that is the case, then traditionally-...
