I have relatively thin, wavy hair. For the past 2 years it has been shoulder blade level with long side swept bangs. I''m rather bored with it. I saw this picture of Naomi Watts. I thought her hair looks fun and bouncy.

Can anyone tell me what this style is really like without all the curls? Right now, I curl my hair most days and it holds pretty well so I think I could do this but I would like to know what it would look like more natural.

Anyone have any suggestions for hair styles for a thin, wavy haired gal? I know I can''t do smooth, straight styles well at all.

Why don''t you try showering the night before and sleeping in pin curls - works for me!

I don''t have wavy or curly hair, but my Mom does and I''ve seen her struggle for years to get the right style for her hair. I strongly recommend reading the book "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey. http://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Lorraine-Massey/dp/0761123008/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227239072&sr=8-1

Also, if you have curly or wavy hair I also recommend looking into the Deva hair care line. They have certain stylists that are trained by their method and I swear it has the best results for wavy and curly hair! http://www.devaconcepts.com/about

Lastly, you might ask your question over at the Naturally Curly forum and they might be able to give you some more insight on the look! http://www.naturallycurly.com/

Just some suggestions that I have had a really good experience with!

The photo of Naomi that you posted looks to me like she has a side part and just some long layers at the bottom of her hair...the whole effect of that style is a curling iron and maybe a hidden bobby pin.

My trick is that I work in mousse when it's wet and then I blow dry (with a diffuser) only half-way. My hair doesn't dry out or get frizzy quite as much and I let the natural curl do it's own thing with a little bit of help. In terms of cut, I've just always asked for a few long layers for texture - if I see those scissors anywhere near where my ears are, I know my head is going to end up looking like a Q-tip. In terms of how I wear it, I like to pull a section back to spread the volume around (think Sarah Palin's do but not as high or tight - more like an Andie McDowell look). Right now, I'm growing out my bangs, so I'm always pinning them back with a bobby pin and then letting everything else fall.

I think bangs really are for those people who are lucky enough to have straight hair (or the patience to deal with a curling iron daily). Plus, my hair is so thin that I never really could achieve the chunky bang look that I like (unless I straightened everything).

Now headed to the link that Victoria mentioned...never heard of that an it sounds exciting!

ETA: Ditto to Starset's idea - I did that for my 2nd wedding and it was sooo pretty - but I can't sleep in them over night. The curls will wind too tight - instead, I pin 'em up, then let them dry for a couple hours and then undo.

Great hairstyles start with great haircuts.

I would use a defuser, a light mouse, twist your natural waves around your finger before drying and dry it flips upside down so to get that volume.
