Hand-engraving ring settings in 14k wg w/rhodium plating...

I have a ring setting that I would like to have engraved-nothing terribly intricate, just to liven up a simple setting. However, it''s 14k white gold with rhodium plating. If such a setting is engraved, would the 14k yellow gold show through? Is it even possible? Or, is another metal such as platinum or non-plated white gold the preferred metal for hand engraving?

It would be re-plated afterwards and the engraving shouldn''t get in the way of that.
