Creating earrings

I am new at this but I was wondering about making a ring or set of earrings out of several small stones. OR just getting a couple stylish earring semimounts and putting small colored stones in them. How hard is this? What about these earring jacket things?

I have found a couple well colored demantiods but they are too tiny for studs. I was thinking of a diamond halo around them.

Any earring semi mount site you all recommend. I have been to stuller.com
Or a semi mount site for rings where you choose all the stones?
