First of all, I want to thank everyone who contributes their time and knowledge to us neophytes on this terrific forum. You have helped enormously in make us all far more educated buyers.

As for me, I am excited about popping the question soon, and have narrowed down my search to the setting below:

https://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/three-stone-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-in-palladium/6344

As to which stone, since I am going with Ritani for setting, I thought I would shop their diamonds, as they appear to be priced fairly competitively. The three I have it narrowed down to are as follows:

https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/round-diamond-1-70-Carat-I-color-GIA-certified/D-WF1QS5

https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/round-diamond-1-66-Carat-I-color-GIA-certified/D-3Y2NJN?search_key=d-3y2njn

The smaller stone has a lower HCA score, but is an S1. It is eye clean however.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Re: Please give me your thoughts on which of these diamonds

I really like Ritani settings and think that will make a beautiful ring! I'd suggest going with Platinum, and if that is not possible, I would go with 18k white gold. I wouldn't consider palladium because it is a less valuable metal and not all jewelers can even size a ring made out of it.

I don't care for either stone. With Ritani, you need to stay within safe parameters to get a well cut stone since they don't provide light return images such as idealscope or ASET. I will give you some measurements to help you choose a better cut stone within the GIA Ex cut range.

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34.0-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

Regarding the setting, you might want to check with Ritani, but I have a feeling they make this ring with various size heads for the center diamonds such as 7mm, 7.5mm, 8mm, etc. So each size will accommodate stones just a little larger or smaller than the optimal size. Keeping that in mind, I'd probably be looking at stones in the 7.5-7.6 mm diameter range, because I'd worry more about a stone that was halfway between the optimal sizes. I am sure they will tell you they can set any size, but I feel like a ring looks better with the optimal size diamond.
