I was wondering if I had a similar setting to this: http://www.tacori.com/engagement/ht2545rd65y.html crafted by a jeweler would the prices run similar? Or would I get better quality per dollar by going with a jeweler? The fiance loves this setting, and I'm just trying to find out if i can get the same thing or nicer for a better price.

Thanks

I would beextremely skeptical of having an unproven jeweler make one of those settings witht he crescent cutouts. If you can find someone who has made a few before that you can see in person or see high quality pictures of, I'd inquire as to prices, but, quite frankly, there is too much that could go wrong with those cutouts for me to want to risk it. I've seen too many blobby, blurrd detail, crooked pave replicas to be able to trust that it would come out alright. I think that by the time you found someone who could do a good replica, you'd be paying around the same price. So I would just get the Tacori.

It's a lovely ring. I would not go with an unknown custom jeweler for that. Tacori is very hard to "copy". Also custom with an ethical jeweler will mean that for copyright they will need to change the design 20%.

Please read this: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/custom-jewelry-work-cad-and-cast-psa.175834/#post-3202426#p3202426

I would advise you to buy the original if you can afford it.

I agree.. I wouldn't try to duplicate tacori as it's delicate designs would likely not turn out the same. I would love tacori wedding bands!

I would say it depends on what draws your fiance to the Tacori setting. If she loves absolutely everything about it, then just go with that setting. If she is drawn to that style of setting, or certain elements of that setting, but is flexible on the details then a competent jeweler could make you a custom ring in that style (not an identical copy) for less money. I have seen really lovely Tacori-style rings from ERD (now Brilliantly Engaged) and David Klass, and own a Tacori inspired band that DK made for me. I agree with the PPs cautioning that not just any bench can make things in the Tacori style; they have delicate proportions and fine details that take a high level of skill to reproduce.
