Hi,

My bf & I have been looking at diamonds on JA. He already bought the diamond and have it set in a setting. He hasn't propose yet, but I am a bit nervous if we made the right decision on the center stone. It's an oval diamond. It was too late when I did some research & found out JA does ASETs & comparison of 3 diamonds of your choice. Now the ring is somewhere in hiding until the day he decide to propose. I need some honest opinions about the diamond we chose, and if we made the right choice choosing it. Here is the diamond:

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hi OP, ovals are hard to select and I'm just getting started on the fancy shapes. I can see a bit of a bow tie, but I've seen much worse and I see a little mush on either ends (not much going on in the faceting). Since it's from JA, I assume you have an aset for at least this stone? Can you post it?

I'm guessing it might be within the 60 day return window, if not, just enjoy! I'm sure it's still very pretty and it's an F color and a pleasing shape. Good luck.

I guess the most important question is - are you within the return window? Otherwise, you're limited to JA's 70% buyback or 2x upgrade for loose diamonds (http://www.jamesallen.com/about-us/upgrade-policies.html), and depending on the mm dimensions of the new stone, your current setting may or may not work. If you want an objective opinion, take it to an independent appraiser in your area - https://www.pricescope.com/appraisers - or send it to PS trade members/highly reputable professional appraisers Dave Atlas or Neil Beaty.

If you are keeping the current stone, then as above poster suggests, love it for what it is.

@luvdajules no, he didn't request an ASET for it, but what do you mean mush on either ends?

Hi OP, by mush I mean there's not much going on when I rotate the stone in those end areas. There should be on and off effect as the stone moves from facet to facet. I'm not seeing a lot of that in those end areas. This is what makes a stone lively, as you move the stone the way it plays with light makes it a good performer or not. I'm sure it's pretty and I clean my ring daily for best sparkle factor, so I'd suggest keeping your diamond clean as well, it really does help a lot and enjoy. If you do decide to change it, of course we can try to help with that too.

Please read the advice given to the poster in this thread. Yes, it's about Marquise, but the advice on cut and performance is the same with ovals with one exception... because ovals do not have points, they do not concentrate color at the ends so you can be safe at H color.
