Pink Luc Yen Spinel from The Gem Trader

First off, it's been a long while. I miss you guys.

I won my first e-bay auction! I have a little pink Spinel from Luc Yen coming to me soon from The Gem Trader. I am excited but not sure what to expect. Here is his picture:


4.9 x 2.4 mm, eye clean.

I will post pictures when it arrives, whether I keep it or not.

It's tiny! 4.9 x 2.4. If I like it, I think I will have it made into a delicate stacking ring.

Pretty! Looks to be little in size only. With that saturation, it looks like you'll get a big bang from a small package.

Chrono- I see the orange modifier too, I do wonder if it's really there or not. I think I am okay either way. I'm actually not sure which I would prefer.

Okay guys, here it is! Came in this morning.

I am having a hard time capturing it without camera obstruction... there is no extinction. It stays lit up nicely most of the time.

I also don't see an orange modifier like I see in the vendor pic, maybe the very very slightest orange IRL- maybe.

In these pictures it's hanging out next to my green-blue spinel.

It helps with obstruction, but the colors are off just a little bit and makes it look a little less saturated.

I love this ring! I have this picture in my "ring inspiration" folder. This is a really good idea! I like the look of all the stones being the same, but that would pretty much be impossible with this spinel. Any ideas for the side stones?

At first I wasn't sure if I was keeping it, but I am now. It grew on me as I took it around with me yesterday, and the good response from you guys helped.
I like having a little piece of Luc Yen. I think the stone ended up being a little expensive, but that comes with the ebay bidding territory.

Edit: I like Freke's idea. Not sure what to do for the side stones... any ideas?

Strange enough... I tried it out last night. I *think* it may, but I am not sure if it's just the light mixing with the color of the stone, or if its really fluorescing. Let me see if I can capture a picture of it.

Looks like fluor to me!

You could probably get lighter pink spinels custom cut to a similar size as the second and fourth stones, and then diamonds on the outsides? That'd be cool!

ETA: Dan Stair does nice step cuts and he often has smaller spinel rough, I'd reach out to him!

I honestly didn't know that Spinels could fluor, which is weird cause I love fluor and I thought I would have looked that up by now. I am excited that I may have a little fluor going on!

I will consider Dan Stair.
