My Dh had a vasectomy but before then, I used the paraguard. It was horrible. My cycles were long and heavy. One month, it was really long and long and finally, on a hunch, I grabbed a pregnancy test and it came back positive. I went in to the dr and they found the paraguard was still up there yet I had managed to become pregnant (but was miscarrying). The paraguard was taken out and I had Mirena put in but had a headache that lasted a month and then decided I was done being the one to be burdened with responsibility of all this and dh, who once feared the idea of a vasectomy, agreed right away to go in.
We don't regret that decision and I'm glad to not to have to worry about it. Before I had kids, I was on the pill (I don't recall which one, for over 10 years and that was the easiest). If I had to pick a method, I'd go with that again because if I don't like the side-effects, I can just switch to another brand. It doesn't require anyone doing anything invasive.
