Yes, but are there any circumstances under which a diamond with a lower HCA (in this case diamond #2) may exhibit less brilliance than a diamond with a higher HCA?
Or is there no way to know for sure unless you run it through an ideal scope?

They both have excellent symmetry so it''s not that.
What do you mean by "broken"?
Thanks,
Ash

Smashed, chipped damaged.

What labs grade is not the symmetry I am concerned with in regard to hCA.
GIA Good can be excellent for optical symmetry, and GIA Excellent can be just good (good = average = bad).

Thanks for the link - very informative and helpful.
I will get to look at both diamonds next week side by side and can then make a final decision. Unfortunately, one of them is mounted on a ring already (the one I thought I was going to buy).
Since I can''t use an ideal scope on it, I was just going to visually compare the diamond on the mounted ring against the loose stone. Does anyone know if that would be an "apples to apples" comparison? Or does the ring somehow affect the brilliance of the mounted stone?
