Every year we have a thread in which we post our favorite Christmas carols; holiday music; Gregorian chants; and whatever else we are interested in musically. I thought I would start us off this year with a song to which diamondseeker introduced me in one thread a few years ago. Although I usually like traditional Christmas carols, this quickly became one of my favorites. It is, "Here With Us" by Joy Williams and one poster put together a beautiful video of a nativity play with it on YouTube.

I love Carol of the Bells! its hard to find a good version of it, this is the best i could do (do not be fooled by the 'transiberian orchestra' version, it will cause bleeding ears)!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TFrO8c_kVQ&playnext=1&list=PLA32B72A6137B8F9B&index=7

I also love Carol of the Meows by Guster but that is very hard to find at the moment...

And Sinatra singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - cant go wrong with that one!

This is how I start Christmas at our house, every year, with this Muppet video (you can watch the whole thing on youtube, it's in parts).

The first song is so happy, but I always end up crying ;( at the end of the movie, it's so touching. . .

BEst. Christmas. Movie. Ever. :appl: PLUS MUPPETS!!

Sorry Blackpaw, I love TSO's Christmas Canon!!! one of my favorites, I had it as my ringtone for about a year. One of my other faves is O holy night, I remember as a kid my cousin playing the piano and my grandma singing it, it was so beautiful.

Oh, how could I have forgotten? For over 30 years I have listened to The Nutcracker beginning around Thanksgiving and always have it playing while I am baking cookies. To me it is always my special holiday cd.

Haha i guess im in the minority  to be fair i havent listened to anything of theirs but Carol of the Bells - i was looking for a good version, and i prefer the haunting, choral kinda interpretation i guess - and thought 'NO, thats not how its done' when i heard the TSO one...but each to their own, its a great song either way :wavey:

okay i have two (but, really i love all christmas music---years & years in retail didn't deter me either):

kenny loggins "celebrate me home" (this video is worth a watch for the awesome '90's hair if nothing else):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRu-eAdZ050

and all time favorite-favorite is "o holy night." i get the goose-bumps every time it comes on.
here's il divo's version:

i'll also include my *LEAST* favorite christmas song; this is the one that if it came on while working, i wanted to pull my hair a bit.
"boogie woogie santa claus" brian setzer orchestra:

Straight No Chaser : Days of Christmas

soocool-I love a cappella music, but I had never heard of, "Straight No Chaser" before. Hearing this was an absolute revelation!

I spent ages on YouTube listening to them, then ordered a combination of CDs and a DVD they made! Their music is aurally beautiful

and also very, very amusing! Thank you so much for introducing me to it! Every year, this Pricescope thread teaches me something

new! Maybe Andrey will be able to sell space to the music industry at Christmas time!

Blackpaw-I know that more than one version of, "Carol of the Bells" has been posted in the threads from previous years. I will look for one for you.

I found another version of, "The Carol of the Bells", an instrumental one arranged by George Winston, on YouTube. It is easy on the ears. It

appears to have a piano and handbells in it, but I only heard it once and I was not concentrating on identifying the instruments to which I

was listening! Give it a try if you like , "Carol of the Bells".

I love Carol of the Bells. It inspires a lot of different emotions in me. I cant explain it. Now since hearing Carol of the Meows I cant get it out of my head.

Have yourself A Merry Little Christmas always makes me cry. I am not sure why since I have never seen the movie it came from, but I cant listen without a full on cry.

One song that I despise is Domonick the Donkey. Urrgghh. It drives me nuts! Another one that I am not fond of is Santa Baby. Do not try and seduce Santa! He has a wife at home.

One of my favorite Christmas carols is, "Angels We Have Heard On High". I usually prefer a cappella versions of this song because

once musical instruments are added, the voices are overwhelmed to the point where one cannot hear the intricacies of the vocal

music. I wouldn't want a full orchestra drowning out the singers during, "The Messiah", either!
