Hello All,

I''m looking at purchasing a stone for a tension set engagement ring (specifically, this setting):

http://www.boonerings.com/htmpages/venus.htm

I was considering the following stone from Jonathan at GOG (who''s been great so far and welcomed me to post the stone here for opinions).

Here is the link to the stone:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/0_785ct_h_si1_h%26a.htm

Basic Specs (see link above for crown & pavillion angles & pics):

AGS
0.785 ct
H
S11
H&A

Holloway cut advisor scored a 1.7 - Excellent.

Factor Grade
Light Return Excellent
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread Very Good

Any opinions? Is this a good stone at a fair price? I''d really love an outside opinion or two from you knowledgeable types. :)

Thanks so much,
Rums.

Looks like a beautiful stone at a decent price.

I'd double check and get Bruce's blessing on the stone, too, considering it's a tension setting. SIs are fine as long as they don't have inclusions around the girdle.

COOL! That's the very ring I'm looking at as a celebratory right-hand ring, and that's pretty much exactly the size stone I'm hoping to put in it. I'll be celebrating paying off 10 years of crippling student loans in the fall, and figured there was no better way than to buy myself a little luxury item

As for that stone, I think it looks good. Just make sure with both Jonathan and Bruce that none of the inclusions break the girdle.

And when you have the finished product, PLEASE post lots of pics... I want a preview of what I'll be getting!!!

What finish are you going with?

Hey Rums. I just purchased the Venus titanium tesion setting from Bruce Boone. He is FANTASTIC to work with. His turnaround time is incredible and his workmanship is second to none. I also had mine engraved. I put a stone a little over 1.50 carat weight in the setting. It looks great and really shows all angles and great color of the stone. The stone is an E color AGS0 stone, so it looks fantastic. Good luck with Bruce. You will not be sorry!!!

Thanks all for the opinions! I've heard nothing but praise for Bruce and his work on this forum, which is why I'm going with him.

rockslover, thanks for the options. I'm pretty happy with GOG's service so far, so if works out well, I'd like to stick to them.

sfanta123155, you *MUST* post pics! At the very least, what width of band did you get for the 1.5 ct stone? (I'm guessing it's about 7mm wide for the diamond?) What finish did you get on the ring? (satin, polished?)

Thanks again, all.

Rums.

The diamond was a little larger than 1.5 carats so I went with 7.5mm due to the fact that the stone was 7.48mm. I got the polished finish and it actually looks better than great if that's possible. The stone got a .7 FIC on the HCA and although it's not a branded H & A stone it does have a great H & A pattern and you can clearly see them. The fire that comes from the stone is astonishing, and the stone looks so white it's unbelieveable. I think the polished finish on the setting has a little to do with the stone looking SO white. I wear this as a wedding band, not for my wife but for me. I've had the completed ring about 2 weeks and I play a lot of blackjack at the casino and tons of people have commented on the ring how fantastic it looks. Where did i get it and so forth? Go with the polished finish I'm positive you will not be disappointed.
Best of luck...

sfanta123155, thanks again for the info. I think I'll go with a polished finish. Again, I'm sure lots of people would like to see some pics of the finished ring if you can!

quaeritur, looks like I'm going with a polished finish.

Thanks for the advice for getting Bruce to check it out too...I'll be sure to contact both him and Jonathan regarding any inclusions that break the girdle.

Anoyone have any thoughts on the cutlet of the stone? It's listed at 0.4...is that insignificant, or is that noticable? (esp. in the tension set w/a profile look)

I'm just humming-and-hawing to figure out if the .78 will be big enough or if it'll look small in a size 6 w/5mm band. the girdle should stick out about .5mm top and bottom...I think that's a good comprimise between safety of the stone and a nice look. Hmm...

Hi Rums!

I can't wait to see pics of the finished product! I'm thinking of going with the satin finish myself. One of the nice things about Bruce is that he'll refinish the ring... that makes a big difference to me, because I know the satin and matte finishes show scratches more easily. I figure, if I don't like it, I'll just change it to a polished finish!
