Diamond Appraisal Recommendation?

I just bought a diamond online at Bluenile. It looks great, but I want to get it appraised just to make sure (i''m a rookie in the diamond business). What type of place should I take it to for appraisal? Should I go to any good ol'' jewelery store or a specific type?

You should go to an independent appraiser -- not one who also sells stones, so I would not go to a jewelery store. There is a list of appraisers on the link above. If you can't find one in your area, lots of people ship stones to David Atlas (Oldminer here) or Rich Sherwood. Both are top notch.

Where are you located? Consider being present while having the work done. You will find it very interesting and pretty neat to get a chance to view your stone under the scope. A good appraiser can address any of your concerns.
