Hello, I am a hobbyist jeweller wanting to make my own engagement ring. I have worked in gold and silver (but jewellery being my hobby, mostly silver) I want to make the engagement ring out of 950 palladium as the colour and price is right and I don’t want to have to rhodium plate the ring as with white gold. Can anyone give me tips on how to work with this metal? Or is this something better left to a more skilled jeweller? I am keen to experiment.

The design is very basic and contemporary looking.. About a 6ml wide (& 2.5ml thick) flat band.. The diamond will be about 0.6ct princess cut set from behind in a raised square setting (I hope my description makes some sense). I really want to make the ring myself, but am worried about my lack of experience with this metal. Is there any special equipment I will need? Is a standard jeweler’s torch fine to use for soldering?

Please can any jewelers that have used the metal give some advice.. ?
Thanks – Vikki
