Alright, I've started this thread for myself (and others) who are open to e-ring suggestions and who are feeling overwhelmed with the whole researching process.

So, here's what I can offer:

I'd prefer a three-stone princess cut in white gold, if possible. No gold-gold, and I'm not a big fan of rose gold.
I'm open to the idea of the side stones as colors.
Any and all types of princess cuts are fine.

Not opposed to second hand rings. I'd prefer new, but I am willing to compromise, as I know his budget is limited.

I'd like around 1 carat, less is fine, but more than .25 carat.
Once upon a time, he mentioned a budget of 3K. So, I'm going to stretch and say if you could find something under 5, that'd be a bit more realistic. Although I haven't had much luck looking @ three-stone princesses that were under 5K.

I really like the look of intricate bands (I know that brings the price up). So I'll try to adapt to a plain band.

Throw your suggestions my way, I may be picky, but I'm open to look at just about anything.
Unfortunately I seem to have lobster taste and M's got a T.G.I.Fridays budget.

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Alright, here is a quick search I did on one of the antique websites. I know some of those are out of budget, but I wanted to see what types of styles you're liking! I'll list those first ;))

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.11ct-princess-cut-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring/14819/3/item
$6950 1.11ct with 0.5tcw bullet cuts on each side

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.05ct-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring/19315/3/item
$7200 not strictly a 3 stone but it's pretty! 1.05ct center with 0.15tcw in the setting

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.09ct-princess-cut-platinum-diamond-engagement-ring/7952/3/item
$5600 1.09ct with 0.2tcw tapered baguettes

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.02ct-princess-cut-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring/14765/3/item
$5800 1.02ct with 0.5tcw trillion cuts

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/0.74ct-princess-cut-diamond-18k-white-gold-engagement-ring-/12440/3/item
$5700 0.74ct with 0.5tcw in the band *personally I really like the proportions on this one!*

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.02ct-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring/10518/3/item
$5800 1.02ct with 0.4tcw baguettes *the engraving on the sides of this one is really special*

now the ones under 5k...

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.02ct-princess-cut-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring/15180/3/item
$4000 1.02ct with RB accents

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/0.90ct-princess-cut-14k-white-gold-diamond-engagement-ring/8206/3/item
$4900 0.9ct with 0.7tcw baguettes and channel princesses

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/-0.90ct-princess-cut-diamond-14k-white-gold-gold-engagement-ring-&-wedding-band-set/16639/3/item
$3400 (this one's a whole set even!) 0.9ct with 0.5tcw princess sides and 0.8tcw rounds in band

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/0.5ct-princess-cut-14k-yellow-gold-platinum-diamond-engagement-ring/9880/3/item
$2700 0.5ct with 0.25tcw princess sides. I know this one is yg but maybe you could always get it plated?

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.01ct-princess-cut-platinum-diamond-engagement-ring/2410/3/item
$4600 1.01ct with 0.25tcw tapered baguettes. *this is another one of my personal favorites for princess settings!*

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.60ct-diamond-platinum-anniversary-ring/12315/3/item
$3600 0.6ct emerald t with 1tcw princess sides *this one is a bit different and modern but hey, you said you like all princess styles!*

http://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/engagement-rings/1.69ct-princess-cut-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring/10090/3/item
$4400 1.69tcw

So that's the current inventory of one site of antique rings at least... as a bonus, they are actually having a sale of 5% off all their engagement rings! Take a look and let us know what styles you like best so we can narrow it down a bit more :wavey:

Can I clarify one thing from your list? Are you looking at ideally wanting 1 carat total weight (over all three stones) or ideally a 1 carat center?

If you go for colored stone sides, do they have to be princess as well? I know that's not a very common shape in colored stones. Any other shapes you like with a princess?

I'll poke around and see what I can find.

ETA: Are you located in the states? I don't recall and I wanted to check in case import taxes, etc were a concern if you were in another country!

If you're not in the US, you might want to stick with retailers or JbEG > individual private sellers.. Less hassle in case you need to return after inspection.

I was thinking 1 carat center. Thanks for asking, I forgot to mention that.

My fingers are on the small side (sized 5.25 - 5.5) so I won't need anything huge.

I'm a bit in the dark about this, sorry!

Yes, I'm in the states- Chicago area, to be exact.

ETA: I don't care about the shape for colored side stones.

These really caught my eye. In the first group, I really like the second one- I agree with you about the proportions.
In the second set, I'm loving both equally, especially the whole set.

I guess I'm a bit pickier than I thought. All of the rings you posted were gorgeous, though!

There are a few DB listings that could potentially fit the bill...

Neither are princess-3-stones per se, but in case you hadn't seen them already I thought I'd post them as food for thought...

http://diamondbistro.com/category/216/Natural-Diamond-Center/listings/32361/151ct-H-SI1-Princess-Cut-in-Platinum-Setting.html
- a bit above the hypothetical budget...

http://diamondbistro.com/category/246/Semi-Mounts/listings/32352/18K-WG-Princess-Cut-Semi-Mount.html
- might need some work...

Thanks, Petit! I actually haven't seen them; never even heard of diamondbistro. I think I'm gonna go explore a bit. 8-)

Picky is a good thing :) you know what you want, and won't have regrets after buying!

Have you seen the princess on JbEG?

And true, I guess being picky is a good thing. I just feel bad shooting you ladies down when you're all so helpful.

Don't worry about being picky. Gypsy helped me find my OEC and she must have sent me over 100 options/links over several days. If you don't love it, it isn't for you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not clicking with options that other people suggest!

Not princess cut stones, but the prongs give the round stones a square appearance. VERY budget friendly at $2,595! I've liked this one a long time. If I were a three stone girl, I would have seriously considered it.

Three stone radiant for $3,400
http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.c...t-Cut/24327198_KHrSBW#!i=1981615549&k=fj46WLL

Different. 5 stone, cushion center, nice spread and blingy! $4,305
http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.c...ragio/23733509_qJGpZm#!i=1922037729&k=bHVzcXJ

Princess solitaire with side stones. If you can be okay with SI3 (ask them more about the actual inclusions), $4,095. You could always reset it or rhodium plate the yellow gold to make it white.

Another round in a setting that makes it look square, side diamonds, $4,495

These were just what I saw that may spark your interest based on your preferences and price from JbEG. I know they aren't all princesses, but you never know what you may like so I figured I'd link. No offense to me if you don't like any of them! :cheeky:

Also, if it makes any difference, I do know that JbEG does lay away.

No problem! All I can say is go with your gut. IF/when you find something in budget that makes your heart sing and you feel like you'd be devastated if someone else bought it...you found your ring!

I like both of those a LOT! And seemingly comfortably in budget. I don't know if you saw, but I was editing that post and added some more links and info after you responded. :)

Ok, last post for the night. I showed him the hubba hubba and he said "thats probably a 10k ring! Find something cheaper!" Lol. Damn, I tried.
I told him he could make payments... No dice. I gotta figure out the price somehow.

So he told me his budget is no more than 6k.
And I think I'd like to see some cushions now, too.

Sorry if there's typos... I'm on my phone.

I don't see that beautiful Leon cushion on her list of for sale so not sure if it's a current one that's available? You could always email and ask though. 6k...totally doable! Cushions are good too. Have you tried on cushions before? I remember you posted a pic of a 3-stone princess from the mall that you really liked.

Thanks Panda, I'll give the e-mail a shot.
I haven't tried cushions on before, and you're correct about the three-stone princess I tried on.

I think I'll go try some on this weekend. Probably other styles too and just see how much my taste may have changed.

Just got an e-mail from Grace.
Hubba hubba was sold several weeks ago. How sad. :blackeye:

I'm not really surprised, that thing was stunning. Lucky girl, whoever ends up with it. :|

Aud, those are both beautiful!!!! I'm starting to get overwhelmed. :errrr:

I thought about hitting up the mall today, just to TRY some cushions on and see how they look. I already know how a princess cut looks, but I think I'll be adventurous, if I do end up going. I feel slightly bad when I do it, as I have no intention (nor does M) of buying from one of those stores. I hate wasting the salespeople's time, but on the same token.... how do you know what you want until you try things on?

Ditto! You needed to be able to see things with your own eyes to get a good idea of what it'll look like :)

Thanks ladies!

You're right; I guess just from my early jobs in retail, I know what it's like to be on the other end and dealing with customers that are "just looking" and you still need to assist them, even though you know they won't be buying that day, or even from you.

I'm trying to make plans with one of my friends to go try on rings. She's also a LIW, but not a forum member. But she definitely knows what I'm going through. I'm looking forward to trying on a bunch of different styles and hopefully narrowing everything down.

This is a bit random- but at what point can you start saying "future fiance?" I'd rather say "FF" as opposed to boyfriend (as we all know from the thread I started). He's given me a timeline, told me to find my ring, and told me it'll happen by next Christmas. In my mind, that's pretty concrete, no? OR do you need to wait until he's purchased the ring/put a deposit down, etc........ I'm so confused!

Thoughts?
