At PriceScope, we recommend that you take any diamond you purchase to an independent appraiser during the time period the vendor allows for returns. The best appraiser is an independent appraiser i.e., one who does not sell diamonds and is not paid by a seller*.
 
The independent appraisers will make sure that the diamond matches the independent grading lab's grading report, check for structural problems with the stone, determine if the price was appropriate for the market in which it was bought, evaluate the diamond's beauty based on expertise and the use of special equipment, etc. Click here for more on the role of a professional appraiser.
