Hello, found this place doing a google search. I finally got my tax return money and ready to buy a surprise engagement ring. I've decided on james allen. If anyone has a suggestion on another place or thoughts on james allen I'd be more than happy to read them. Here's what I'm looking for -

Shape: Princess
Color: D-I
Clarity: IF-SI1
Carat: 1.0 +
Price: No more than $3250

This is what came up on Jame Allen when searching -
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Good-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1292631.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1302088.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Good-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1276814.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Good-Cut-Princess-Diamond-940475.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1239819.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1240051.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI1-Good-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1263352.asp
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI1-Good-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1301561.asp (I have this one on hold, but not sure if I should go with another one)

Basically I'm just looking to see if anyone has a spare 5 minutes to look and see what my best choice would be. If I can save a $100 and won't be able to notice the difference then I'm all for it.. but I'm spending a lot - so I want to get my girlfriend a diamond that will sparkle and last a lifetime.

Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

EDIT - I've been looking into brian gavin diamonds website. Does anyone here recommend them more than james allen? Any cons or pros for either of them? It appears the setting would be $120 cheaper at brian gavin.

Hi helpme,

I don''t have time to look through all your selections, but even without seeing them I can say I would probably pass on most if not all. You want the best cut you can afford, cut is what makes a diamond sparkly and beautiful.

I did look at the one you have on hold, and to be honest, I''m not loving it. It''s spready for it''s weight, but that''s not necessarily a good thing... the table is a good bit larger than the depth, which can make for a rather lackluster stone. Not always, but many times. I personally would pass.

I am also familiar with BGD, and would definitely consider one of their diamonds. I found this one, which fits all your criteria, if eyeclean. I''d ask about that first, and if so, proceed with an ASET/Idealscope pic. Should be a pretty diamond!

You need an ASET to tell the diamond''s potential light return of any diamond you are considering including the one suggested by Ellen.

Ok lets have a look at these for you....

To be honest I am not keen on any of those, would you like us to have a look for some more suggestions? If so, does the budget need to include the setting?

Would you be willing to drop the size a bit? Its going to be difficult finding that size on the budget....

Ellen - I also noticed that the table was too large after I started reading a little bit more on princess cut diamonds. I''m going to take that diamond off hold. Thank you for the suggestion for the other diamond.

Lorelei - I''m considering going down a little bit in size if I have to get a better quality diamond. I''ll even consider .90
The price I listed is just the diamond budget, that''s my main concern here, the setting can always be changed (their cheap enough) Where a diamond costs me a fortune.

tyty333 - Thanks for the additional suggestions. I think I''m going to look more towards briangavindiamonds.com instead of James Allen. Not that there is anything wrong with James Allen, but it''s looking like there may be a better selection on brian gavin.

I requested the information that Ellen asked me to do on that diamond. So it looks like I''m in the waiting game again. If anyone finds any diamonds that may possibly be better than the one she pointed out I''m up for other suggestions, but it looks like she did a very good job on finding one that matched my needs.

Putting prices aside and business names aside, which diamond would you choose from these two? (looking for best quality, not carat)

Thank you dear friend, you are too kind. I just happened to decide to pop in here, and saw that helpme, well, needed help. I don''t know that I will be posting often, but I appreciate you missing me! (and the very generous compliment!)

helpme, I echo stone, we would need all the info/ASET pics, etc. to truly evaluate which one would be best. Let us know what you here from BGD, and post any pics they send you, we''ll help evaluate it.

Yep, not enough info. You need to call BGD and ask for pictures/ASET and ideal scope images.

Call James Allen and ask for an ideal scope image. I cant remember if they do aset or not (ask)

Then post the info so we can have a look.

JA only does ASET for fancy cut now.
