Hello everyone!

My first post here after joining a few months ago.
After reading the helpful responses on other posts, I've decided to get other's opinion on some of points I've been pondering on. Any feedback is of course greatly appreciated ^^

I have my sights on a ~2ct Round VS2 G H&A (BlueNile and Whiteflash) for better or worse.

Questions:

1. 1.9ct VS1 G H&A or 1.9ct VS2 F H&A or 2ct VS2 G H&A?

2. Tiffany's website shows that 2ct rings start at 36k. Any idea what kind of ring that starting price gets you? And any idea on what my criteria ring would cost at Tiffany's? (I've heard from people that their markup is ridiculous over online vendors ~ over twice as much?)

3. If I go with BN, I'm thinking of the 6 prong Petite Nouveau setting because my gf's fingers are slim and small, and I like the idea of the diamond being close to her finger for everyday use. Anyone have experience with this setting or thoughts? For example vs. 6 prong classic?

4. Does fluorescence really matter given my desired specs?

5. Anything I've missed?

Thanks for reading everyone!

Below is a diamond I've been looking at:

any reason for these two vendors? you might find more candidates if you expand your search. I personally favor WF over BN because they provide images of their diamonds.
Questions:

1. 1.9ct VS1 G H&A or 1.9ct VS2 F H&A or 2ct VS2 G H&A?

based on that alone...one of the 1.9s. But...I would rather see numbers/images.

2. Tiffany's website shows that 2ct rings start at 36k. Any idea what kind of ring that starting price gets you? And any idea on what my criteria ring would cost at Tiffany's? (I've heard from people that their markup is ridiculous over online vendors ~ over twice as much?)

I have no idea but you could ask them! I assume the 'starting' is I color and SI1 clarity (I think this is the lowest they go although somewhere I read they now have J color also?)
also Tiffany diamonds are not H&A.

3. If I go with BN, I'm thinking of the 6 prong Petite Nouveau setting because my gf's fingers are slim and small, and I like the idea of the diamond being close to her finger for everyday use. Anyone have experience with this setting or thoughts? For example vs. 6 prong classic?

I think anything less than 2 mm is too small. If you like the Tiffany setting, Vatche makes an excellent model. Diamondseeker2006 recently got one and she posted LOTS of pictures of it!

4. Does fluorescence really matter given my desired specs? no, but if it is strong or very strong check with vendor to make sure no hazy appearance (this is VERY rare but it doesn't hurt to check)

5. Anything I've missed?

Thanks for reading everyone!

How about you set a ideal fixed budget for the ring and give the specifics, which you have mostly done. Do you want Gold or Platinum? figure this out and the gang around here will come up with the most amazing combo of stone/ring/etc in the general realm of what you like. If I understand correctly a 1.9ct stone will have a much better price to options (4c's) then exceeding the magic 2.0 mark, so you will likely get more for your money staying under the 2.0 mark, but sometimes you can get lucky and find a excellent stone like Yassie has, but they are far and few between.

This is a really nice, 2.010ct I color, SI1 that looks mightly clean and is a pretty nice 24,000 pricetag

I think G VS2 is a great combination! I have G VS1 myself, but it may be best for you to do the VS2 and go over the 2 ct. mark if you think the larger size would mean more to her than higher clarity. I would prefer buying from WhiteFlash or Good Old Gold since they provide photos and evidence of cut quality. Plus both of them can order the Vatche version (U-113) of the Tiffany setting if you want that.

Good Old Gold has this one:

I am not seeing a comparable stone in your range from WF right now. I have bought from both vendors, though, and highly recommend them.

If you are interested in the Vatche Tiffany setting, I'll be happy to give you the link to a few pictures.

Oh, and I'd say the mark-up is around 30% for the rings I have looked at from Tiffany's. I love their rings but chose to save money and get the reproduction designer setting and an excellent cut stone. Equal quality for 30% less!

The Blue Nile diamond looks fine on paper, but I wouldn't want to spend that much without seeing the diamond. Plus I just don't love any of their settings.

Thanks everyone,

To be honest, I'm not really a diamond person, but my girlfriend is so here we are :)

I guess to get more into it, my girlfriend jokes that a 2ct would be nice and she is the kind of person who would be happy with anything I give her, but I thought it would be nice to surprise her. Hence I'm looking in the 1.9 - 2.1 ct range. As I've heard countless times, cut is best, so sparing no expenses I'll go for H&A/Signature. Also by adding a VS2 and G, it seems my budget will be around 30-35k. She has mentioned that she prefers a Round diamond on platinum, and simplicity is key. So this leaves me with a tiffany setting, 6 prong for safety.

So, I'm left to find a diamond. Please note that I am not limiting myself to just BN and WF. GOG from what I've heard are great.

@diamondseeker, the GOG diamond is actually very nice! Only concern is that it's just above my budget, and so let the search continue.

Here is a nice one from WF

These two are closer to budget, but the catch is the H colour. Thoughts relative to each other and the GOG diamondseeker recommended?

The H ACA stones from WF will be gorgeous and equal in cut quality to the GOG G diamond! If she is not really particular about color, I think you would be fine!

You will want to ask for the Vatche U-113 and ask that they use 90%platinum/10%iridium. It is a harder alloy than the standard alloy, and it doesn't cost any more. My pictures are here, but my diamond is only a 1.58. Yours will look even better!
