Just curious as to why Brian Gavin Diamonds aren't a PS sponsored vendor? Is it bc they aren't up to snuff?

And does that mean that when I search for diamonds on PS, his don't show up? Or are all the diamonds cataloged on PS too?

PS does not sponsor vendors; vetted vendors sponsor PS; their support is doubtlessly invaluable to keeping a site of this sprawling size up and running. So far as I know, those who are not sponsors do not have their inventories included in the databases searched when you use the Search and Compare Diamonds-Prices from Multiple Vendors feature.

There's this "sticky"from the PS administrators that's pinned at the top of every forum's 1st page which you might find interesting-helpful:

ETA this post, also from the PS administrators -- What is a PS Vendor -- that's pinned on the FAQ board, a sub-heading of PriceScope Cafe

I can't speak as to why BGD isn't a sponsor but their diamonds are top of the line. Brian comes from a long family history in diamond cutting and helped start Whiteflash before starting his own company.

Lots of info here: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/about/

BGD is highly recommended on this board and many PSers (including me) have purchased from BGD. They are also known for making fantastic quality settings.

+1

I have a beautiful pair of studs from BG and highly recommend them as a vendor.

Vendors that sponsor PS pay for advertising on PS.

BGD apparently doesn't feel the need to do that. I'm sure it makes sense to them.

I have made several purchases from BGD. Their bench work has always been praised by my appraisers (and I use only PS picky appraisers), and their diamonds have traffic stopping performance (and I mean that literally, my Aurora band from them literally blinded me one time while I was driving).

Follow up question: Are there any more venders (such as Brian Gavin) that aren't in pricescope's inventory that pricescopers feel is worth checking out?

The vendors we recommend, as posters and enthusiasts have nothing to do with who is advertising on PS.

We recommend the best vendor for what the poster is looking for.

There is no vendor that does everything perfectly, though some definitely try.

Why don't you tell us what you are looking for, SPECIFICALLY, and what your budget is, and what your priorities are, and also where you are located, and we'll tell you what the best vendors are for YOU.

Well I'm looking at diamonds on the PS search. I was just wondering if there were any other websites I should be checking for diamonds that weren't in the PS search. I will look over Brian Gavin's diamonds. But if you are curious as to what I am after so far I have the following search parameters:

Carat: .75 or greater (6.0mm or better)
Cut: Excellent
HCA: 2 or less
Color: I or better
Clarity: SI1 or better iff eye-clean
Polish: Very good or better
Symmetry: Very good or better
Fluorescence: Medium or less
Price: $3500 for diamond and setting (I am looking at settings from $550-$850)

With a limited or moderate budget, I always recommend Blue Nile, as far less of the price goes to extra documentation or expert opinion and more goes to the stone. I found a number of stones within all your parameters and I also kept the parameters at H or better color, as I is where you can sometimes (not always) begin to see tint.

The first stone is a G VS2 .76ct, triple excellent. It scored .9 on the HCA, zero fluorescence and, after wire, $3512.53.

Here's one which is a little larger (H SI1, .83ct) - also triple excellent. Scores 1.8 on the HCA:

This one is a .8ct H SI1 and scores .6 on the HCA. All the diamonds I'm linking you to are triple excellent.

But here's the one I think would be best for you and it's the one I'd be most keen to see and, probably, buy. It's an H SI1, .81ct, triple excellent for cut, polish and symmetry, it scores a 1.2 on the HCA and after wire discount it's $3203.22. The stats on this stone are my favorite combination, and the price would give you a little left over to add to the setting budget.

All the stones I listed are faint fluorescence or none.

I hope this helps.

ETA By the way, I own Brian Gavin's tapered Tiffany in yellow gold with platinum prongs. It's gorgeous, classic and extremely well made. It's my profile photo.
